Job summary

KPJ Selangor Specialist Hospital in Malaysia seeks a dedicated ward nurse to support daily patient care and hospital operations. You will assist with basic nursing tasks, bed management, linen handling, and coordinate with the Nurse-In-Charge.

This role requires teamwork, adherence to hospital policies, and a commitment to patient comfort and safety. Previous ward experience preferred; training provided on site.

Qualifications

• Understands nursing care aligned to hospital vision and mission.
• Understands the service organization structure.
• Informs Nurse-In-Charge or Unit Manager when care standards are affected.
• Receives ward report and assignment before each shift.
• Attends service meetings to discuss operational issues.
• Daily routine understanding of ward operations.

Responsibilities

• Performs regular checking of equipment performance.
• Make and tidy patients’ beds and trolleys; change linen as needed; assist with linen collection.
• Assist in collection of dirty linen and send to dirty linen area.
• Carbolizes beds and equipment and tidies bedside lockers and surrounding areas.
• Maintains cleanliness of ward, pantry, treatment room, utility and linen room.
• Collects, cleans and fills hot water flasks for patients.
• Dispatching: charge tickets, CSSS items, specimens, etc. to relevant services.
• Answers phone calls and relays messages.
• Responds to patient’s call bell promptly.
• Assists qualified staff with basic nursing care for comfort, safety, nutrition and elimination needs.
• Handles admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
• Gives bed baths and personal hygiene to non-ambulatory patients; assists ambulatory patients as needed.
• Assists with dressing, IV lines, catheterization, and related procedures when required.
• Cleans trolley after use and washes instruments; places them in appropriate places.
• Records daily charges for disposables/equipment/consumables used in the ward.
• Maintains intake and output charts.
• Lifts, turns and positions patients using correct body mechanics.
• Takes care of pressure sore treatment.
• Takes diet orders for new admissions and serves meals; collects trays.
• Helps to feed patients orally.
• Prepares drinks for patients at night and when necessary.
• Chaperones Consultant during procedures and ward rounds when nurses are unavailable.
• Accompanies nurses to OT and from OT; escorts patients to other services for investigations.
