Job summary

Vsconsultancy in Johor seeks a dedicated Operating Theatre (OT) Nurse to join our healthcare team on a full-time basis. You will ensure sterile theatre environments, support surgeons and anaesthetists, and monitor patients throughout the perioperative period.

The ideal candidate holds a recognized nursing qualification, current registration, and 2–3 years' OT experience, with excellent communication and commitment to infection control. Private multispecialty facilities experience is preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain the operating theatre environment, ensuring sterility and readiness of instruments.
• Assist surgeons, anaesthetists and team members during procedures with instruments and materials.
• Monitor and record vital signs and patient condition during surgery with the anaesthetic team.
• Adhere to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols throughout procedures.
• Manage surgical counts to prevent retained objects and ensure patient safety.
• Position patients on the table and maintain comfort and safety during operations.
• Support recovery and transfer to the recovery area with initial postoperative care.
• Maintain accurate perioperative records and observtions.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure efficient theatre operations.
• Adhere to health and safety regulations and organisational policies.

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Operating Theatre (OT) Nurse to join the healthcare team in Johor. This is a full-time position offering the opportunity to work in a dynamic surgical environment where patient safety and clinical excellence are paramount. As an OT Nurse, you will play a vital role in the surgical team, ensuring seamless theatre operations and exceptional patient care throughout the perioperative period. Your expertise and attention to detail will directly contribute to the success of surgical procedures and the wellbeing of our patients.

Key responsibilities

• Preparing and maintaining the operating theatre environment, ensuring all equipment, instruments and supplies are sterile, properly organised and readily available for surgical procedures
• Assisting surgeons, anaesthetists and other surgical team members during operative procedures, providing appropriate instruments and materials as required
• Monitoring and recording vital signs and the general condition of patients during surgery in collaboration with the anaesthetic team
• Ensuring strict adherence to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols throughout all surgical procedures
• Managing surgical counts, including swabs, instruments and needles, to prevent retained foreign objects and maintain patient safety
• Positioning patients appropriately on the operating table and ensuring their comfort and safety during procedures
• Assisting with patient recovery and transfer to the recovery area, providing initial postoperative care and monitoring
• Maintaining accurate and detailed records of all perioperative activities and patient observations
• Collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary surgical teams to ensure efficient and safe theatre operations
• Adhering to all health and safety regulations, standard precautions and organisational policies

What we're looking for

• A recognised nursing qualification (BSc or Diploma in Nursing or equivalent) from an accredited institution
• Current and valid nursing registration with the relevant regulatory body in Malaysia
• A minimum of 2-3 years' experience working in an operating theatre environment
• Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, anaesthesia, sterilisation protocols and perioperative care
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
• Outstanding attention to detail and commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and infection control
• The ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment whilst remaining calm and organised
• Proficiency in the use of theatre equipment and relevant surgical instruments
• Strong clinical assessment skills and the ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team
• Commitment to continuous professional development and keeping abreast of current best practices in theatre nursing
• Preferably, experience working in private healthcare or multispecialty surgical facilities
