Job summary

Columbia Asia Group in Malaysia is seeking an Occupational Therapist to provide comprehensive services for patients recovering from injury or illness. You will assess, plan, implement and document treatments to restore strength, mobility and function.

You will work with patients and families to set goals, collaborate with a multidisciplinary rehab team, and educate on home modifications and splint care. A Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy and relevant practice certification are required.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy
• Valid annual practicing certificate where applicable
• Good physical health and ability to lift/move equipment and stand for long periods
• Good interpersonal and communication skills

Responsibilities

• Carry out comprehensive assessment and treatment to develop, recover or maintain motor, daily living and work skills affected by injury or illness
• Assess physical and cognitive abilities and design an appropriate treatment plan
• Set realistic goals with patients, families and the rehabilitation team
• Implement and monitor treatment plans and evaluate progress
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and records
• Use a range of techniques and modalities to address physical limitations, balance, concentration and cognitive skills
• Fabricate splints where applicable and educate patients on wearing regime and care
• Work with children with learning difficulties, writing difficulties and attention deficits
• Provide carer training and home modification advice to families
• Participate in continuous educational programs and in-service meetings
• Establish and maintain departmental policies, procedures, objectives and safety standards
• Perform other duties as assigned

Position Summary

Provide occupational therapy services to patients after an injury or illness which include assessments, treatment planning, treatments and implementation, education and related documentation and communication.

Assist patients with recovery from injury and illness by restoring their strength, mobility, relieving pain and educating them in preventing injury or falls.

Duties and responsibilities

• 1. To carry out comprehensive assessment and treatment to develop, recover or maintain motor skills, daily living skills and work skills that have been affected by injury or illness, developmental delays, or ageing.
• 2. Carry out comprehensive assessment of physical as well as cognitive abilities and limitations of patients and design an appropriate treatment plan.
• 3. To set realistic goals with patients, their family members, and other members of the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team.
• 4. To carry out treatment plan, monitor and continue to evaluate progress and effectiveness of treatment plan.
• 5. To maintain accurate clinical documentation and records.
• 6. To use a range of techniques, modalities and apparatus to address physical limitations and balance issues, concentration and cognitive skills as well as environmental challenges.
• 7. To fabricate splints where applicable and educate patients on its wearing regime and care.
• 8. To work with children with learning difficulties, writing difficulties and attention deficits.
• 9. To provide carer training to families and advice on home modifications.
• 10. To participate in continuous educational programs and in service meetings
• 11. Assist to establish and maintain departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety environmental and infection control standards.
• 12. Perform other requested duties as assigned or requested.

Education and Requirements

Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy.

Valid annual practicing certificate where applicable.

Special Demands

Good physical health. Heavy lifting, moving equipment and standing for long periods of time may occur.

Possess good interpersonal and communication skills.
