Job summary

Brooks Automation is seeking an NPI Buyer to support purchasing and planning for materials used in complex engineering designs. The role requires transforming demand signals into actionable orders and coordinating with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery.

Key responsibilities include creating POs/RFQs with technical docs, driving PFEP from BOMs, ensuring component readiness for prototypes and launches, and collaborating with Commodity Management to optimize sourcing and lead times.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 3+ years in purchasing, planning, supply chain, or manufacturing.
• Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI), engineering builds, or product development programs.
• Working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems, inventory planning, and procurement processes.
• Ability to review and analyze engineering BOMs, drawings, and technical documentation.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to identify risks and drive timely solutions.

Responsibilities

• Create and manage purchase orders and RFQs with technical docs, pricing, delivery and milestones.

• Develop PFEP by reviewing BOMs and driving required actions.
• Drive component readiness to support engineering builds, prototypes, DV/PV builds, pilot production, and launches.
• Expedite critical materials and coordinate recovery actions to prevent schedule impacts.
• Analyze and optimize inventory levels to align with project schedules and lead times.
• Collaborate with Supplier Quality on quality issues to ensure timely resolution.
• Work with Commodity Management to align sourcing strategies and negotiate favorable agreements.

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The NPI Buyer will work primarily to support the buying and planning responsibilities for a variety of materials, used in complex product designs in an engineering design environment. Work assignments range from tactical to complex, requiring motivation, discretion, independent judgment and diverse problem-solving methods.

Key responsibilities:

• Create and manage purchase orders and requests for quotes to include technical documents, pricing, delivery and key milestones to ensure on-time receipt of material.
• Transform MRP demand signals into planned orders to create confirming Purchase Orders using appropriate and approved Inventory planning rules and guidelines.
• Develop and maintain PFEP (Plan for Every Part) by reviewing engineering and pre-production BOMs and driving required actions.

• Drive component readiness to support engineering builds, prototypes, DV/PV builds, pilot production, and product launches.

• Expedite critical materials and coordinate recovery actions to prevent schedule impacts.

• Analyze, adjust and optimize product and component inventory levels to coincide with design project schedules and/or manufacturing demand and lead time changes.
• Support Engineering in management for design projects, engineering BOMs, engineering change orders (ECO) and supplier-initiated action requests (SIARs).
• Work collaboratively with Commodity Management to align sourcing strategies, mitigate risk, and negotiate optimal purchase agreements.
• Maintain the integrity of MRP parameters (lot/ order size, lead time and safety stock).
• Coordinate with Supplier Quality on quality issues to ensure immediate intervention and resolution.
• Interacts with suppliers to ensure appropriate support and execution of NPI deliverables.
• Manage the creation and coordination of outside process reowork orders
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Operations, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of experience in purchasing, planning, supply chain, manufacturing, or a related field.
• Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI), engineering builds, or product development programs preferred.
• Working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems, inventory planning, and procurement processes.
• Ability to review and analyze engineering BOMs, drawings, and technical documentation.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to identify risks and drive timely solutions.
• Experience collaborating with suppliers to manage delivery, quality, cost, and schedule commitments.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams across global regions and time zones.
• Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced development environment.
• Self-motivated with a continuous improvement mindset and the ability to work independently while supporting remote stakeholders.
• Able to attend some occasional night and early morning meetings with the US Team
