Job summary

ZTE Malaysia is seeking a senior microwave transmission planning leader to guide a team of engineers, allocate resources, and drive the design of backbone and access links to support 5G deployment and enterprise connectivity.

You will oversee technical analyses, forecasting, and capacity planning, while coordinating with diverse teams to ensure timely delivery and high network reliability. Strong leadership and vendor management are essential.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor transmission planning engineers and allocate resources.

• Monitor utilization, forecast growth, and plan upgrades for QoS and latency.

• Coordinate with rollout, RF, IP/MPLS, and operations teams for delivery.
• Interface with customers, present strategies, and align plans with objectives.
• Establish SOPs and automated workflows to improve efficiency.

Job description

• Lead, mentor, and manage transmission/microwave planning engineers, including resource allocation, performance evaluation, and technical capability development.
• Lead the design and dimensioning of backbone, aggregation, and access microwave links to support network expansion, 5G deployment, and enterprise connectivity.
• Oversee LoS verification, path profiling, link budgeting, availability and rain-fade calculations, frequency planning, interference analysis, and HLD/LLD preparation, including XPIC, MIMO, and E-band solutions.
• Monitor network utilization, forecast traffic growth, identify capacity bottlenecks, and plan link upgrades, migration, and modernization to meet QoS, latency, and reliability requirements.
• Assess and integrate microwave products and solutions from vendors such as Huawei, SIAE, NEC, ZTE, Ericsson, and Nokia. Drive migration from legacy microwave systems to modern IP microwave networks where applicable.
• Manage frequency allocation, licensing, coordination, and interference mitigation in accordance with local regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate with rollout, customer, HQ, RF, RAN, IP/MPLS, civil, and operations teams to ensure timely delivery, commissioning, acceptance testing, and documentation.
• Serve as the primary technical interface for customers, present planning strategies and progress updates, resolve technical issues, and align delivery plans with business objectives.
• Establish engineering standards, SOPs, and automated workflows to improve planning efficiency, network quality, and CAPEX/OPEX optimization. Leverage tools such as Pathloss, Atoll, MapInfo, Excel, and Python where applicable.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in microwave transmission planning, telecom infrastructure, or network deployment, including at least 3 years in a technical leadership or team management role.
• Strong knowledge of microwave transmission planning, network deployment, and large-scale telecom projects.
• Proven ability to manage vendors, contractors, and cross-functional teams. Experience in nationwide rollout or network modernization programs is an advantage.
• Strong team leadership, customer engagement, stakeholder management, and reporting skills, with proficiency in both English and Bahasa Malaysia.
• Willingness to travel within Malaysia and to regional offices when required.
• PMP, PRINCE2, or Agile certification is preferred.
• Proactive, results-oriented, adaptable, and able to perform effectively under pressure.
