Viroxy Sdn. Bhd. is seeking a Microbiologist to support the daily operation of its microbiology laboratory. The successful candidate will perform microbiological testing, assist with method verification and validation, maintain laboratory equipment and documentation, and support the laboratory’s compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 and other recognized international standards.
Support the daily operation, organisation, cleanliness, and maintenance of the microbiology laboratory.
Ensure laboratory work areas, equipment, materials, and records are maintained in a clean, orderly, and inspection-ready condition.
Monitor laboratory stocks, including culture media, reagents, consumables, reference materials, and sampling supplies, and arrange replenishment when required.
Receive, inspect, register, label, store, and prepare samples for microbiological testing.
Ensure samples are handled, transported, stored, and documented in accordance with approved procedures and chain-of-custody requirements.
Prepare culture media, reagents, test solutions, controls, and other materials required for routine microbiological testing.
Maintain microbial cultures and reference strains, including receipt, storage, preparation, traceability, handling, and disposal.
Perform microbiological testing in accordance with approved test methods, standard operating procedures, and applicable international standards.
Conduct environmental monitoring and on-site sampling using contact plates, settle plates, swabs, air sampling, and other approved methods.
Operate laboratory instruments and equipment in accordance with approved procedures and manufacturer instructions.
Perform routine equipment checks, cleaning, verification, preventive maintenance, and basic troubleshooting.
Coordinate equipment calibration and servicing and maintain accurate calibration, maintenance, temperature-monitoring, and equipment-usage records.
Record test activities and results accurately, completely, and in a traceable manner.
Review and interpret test results and prepare test worksheets, laboratory reports, certificates, and supporting documentation.
Promptly report invalid, atypical, out-of-specification, or potentially non-conforming results to the Head of Department Microbiology.
Support investigations, corrective actions, trend analysis, and other quality-related activities when required.
Comply with laboratory safety procedures, biosafety requirements, waste-disposal procedures, contamination-control practices, and good microbiological laboratory practices.
Maintain laboratory documents and records in accordance with the laboratory quality management system and data-integrity requirements.
Support the laboratory’s preparation for ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, including document preparation, record maintenance, internal audits, and audit-readiness activities.
Assist with method verification, validation, transfer, and suitability studies when required.
Participate in proficiency testing, interlaboratory comparisons, and other activities used to demonstrate laboratory competence.
Support continuous improvement activities within the microbiology laboratory.
Perform other duties assigned by the Head of Department Microbiology or Executive Management.
Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology or a related life sciences field.
2 years of practical experience in a microbiology laboratory setting, preferably in the context of product testing or quality control.
Fresh graduates with relevant academic background, laboratory training, and a strong interest in microbiology are also encouraged to apply.
Familiarity with laboratory environments, microbiological techniques, and aseptic working conditions.
Experience with ISO/IEC 17025 compliance or method validation is an advantage.
Prior work with disinfectant testing or virology is a plus.
Proficiency in English (written and spoken); able to write clear reports and communicate technical results.
Detail-oriented, well-organized, and able to follow procedures precisely.
Team player with the ability to work independently and adapt in a dynamic environment.
Must be willing to travel and perform on-site sampling activities at customer facilities.
Candidate who possesses a valid Malaysian Class D or B2 driving licence will be added advantage.
