Job summary

Businesslist is seeking a Microbiology Laboratory Specialist in Kulim, Kedah. You'll work as the second-in-charge to the Senior Microbiologist, managing daily lab operations and ensuring quality systems are maintained according to ISO standards.

Qualifications

Job Responsibilities

• Work as second-in-charge (2IC) to the Head of Laboratory Services (Senior Microbiologist) and help manage daily lab operations.
• Run, check, and maintain laboratory work processes and storage conditions according to required standards.
• Guide and train junior microbiologists to make sure tests are done correctly and SOPs are followed.
• Perform Sterility Testing and Bioburden Testing with accurate and reliable results.
• Do Ethylene Oxide (EO) Residual Testing (good to have experience).
• Develop and maintain ISO 17025:2017 quality systems to keep laboratory accreditation.
• Prepare and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and documents for interlaboratory studies.
• Support EO sterilization services, including helping with test setup during product validation.
• Help improve lab processes, documentation, and quality systems.
• Attend meetings with clients and explain technical matters (and gradually take on more client communication).
• Work towards becoming an Authorized Signatory for lab reports.
• Eventually grow into a leadership role as Head of Laboratory Services.

Job Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience working in a microbiology laboratory.
• Good knowledge of microbiology tests such as Sterility and Bioburden testing.
• Basic understanding of ISO 17025:2017 standards and lab accreditation.
• Experience in writing SOPs and handling lab documents.
• Able to guide and train junior staff.
• Understand lab quality systems, compliance rules, and audit requirements.
• Good communication skills for teamwork and talking to clients.
• Careful, detail-focused, and able to solve problems.
• Willing to learn and grow into leadership and client-facing roles.
