Job summary

NES Fircroft is seeking a Lead Construction Project Engineer – Mechanical to provide technical leadership for all mechanical systems on a hyperscale data center project in Malaysia. You will oversee HVAC, chilled water, plumbing and fire protection, ensure design compliance, manage commissioning, and mentor junior engineers.

The role requires strong coordination with Electrical, ELV and CSA disciplines, on-site presence, and rigorous QA/QC. Fluent English and Malaysian work rights are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 8–10 years’ experience in mechanical MEP or industrial projects.
• Experience leading mechanical engineering teams on complex projects.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, chilled water, plumbing and fire protection.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit MEP and MS Office; BIM is a plus.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken).
• On-site availability and ability to coordinate multiple disciplines.
• Malaysian nationals preferred; valid work rights in Malaysia encouraged.
• Medically fit for active construction site work.

Role Summary

The Lead Construction Project Engineer – Mechanical will provide technical leadership and oversight for all mechanical systems within the hyperscale data center project. This includes HVAC, chilled water, plumbing, and fire protection systems, ensuring design compliance, quality installation, and successful commissioning. The role will also mentor and guide junior engineers and coordinate closely with Electrical, ELV, and CSA disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Technical Oversight

• Lead the Mechanical engineering team, providing guidance, mentoring, and technical support.
• Review and approve mechanical designs, drawings, shop drawings, and submittals for compliance with project specifications.
• Ensure proper integration of mechanical systems with electrical, ELV, and architectural disciplines.
• Support the Project Manager in managing technical queries, RFIs, and design clarifications.

Construction Supervision & Coordination

• Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of all mechanical systems, including HVAC, chilled water, pumps, AHUs, CRAHs, and fire protection.
• Monitor contractors to ensure work is performed to project standards, quality requirements, and safety protocols.
• Conduct site inspections, review progress, and coordinate problem resolution.
• Participate in weekly coordination and progress meetings, ensuring alignment with schedule and project objectives.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

• Ensure QA/QC compliance for all mechanical works and verify contractor adherence to specifications and standards.
• Review inspection reports, non-conformance reports, and as-built documentation.
• Enforce safety protocols on site and support site audits and inspections.

Reporting & Documentation

• Prepare and review technical reports, progress updates, and commissioning documentation.
• Track punch lists, site observations, and remedial actions, ensuring timely resolution.
• Maintain version-controlled records for mechanical design and site changes.

Stakeholder Management

• Liaise with contractors, consultants, client representatives, and internal teams to resolve technical or coordination issues.
• Provide technical leadership during design and construction review meetings.
• Escalate critical technical or schedule issues to the Project Manager promptly.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in mechanical MEP or industrial projects, preferably with data center, semiconductor, or pharmaceutical experience.
• Proven experience leading mechanical engineering teams on complex projects.
• Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, chilled water, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and MS Office; BIM experience is a plus.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken).
• Ability to work on-site, coordinate multiple disciplines, and mentor junior engineers.
