Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
• 3 to 5 years of hands-on mechanical design experience in automation or semiconductor equipment manufacturing.
• SolidWorks used for 3D modeling and 2D drafting; strong GD&T fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize, design, and detail precision mechanical parts, assemblies, and automation modules using SolidWorks.
• Develop components for semiconductor equipment such as test handlers, SLT setups, and ATE integration.
• Ensure designs are manufacturable with proper GD&T and maintain BOMs and CAD vaults.
• Prototype, test, and troubleshoot with assembly and production teams during build and integration.

We are looking for an innovative and detail-oriented Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing team in Melaka. You will play a critical role in developing precision mechanisms and automated equipment that drive the next generation of semiconductor manufacturing and testing.

Role Summary

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience, particularly within the semiconductor equipment or automated test handler space. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of mechanical design—from conceptualization and 3D modeling using SolidWorks, through prototyping, to final production release.

Key Responsibilities

• Mechanical Design & Development: Conceptualize, design, and detail precision mechanical parts, assemblies, and automation modules using SolidWorks.
• Equipment Specialization: Develop and optimize mechanical components specifically for semiconductor equipment, such as test handlers, System Level Testing (SLT) setups, and Automated Test Equipment (ATE) integration.
• Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Ensure all designs are optimized for manufacturing, assembly, and maintenance. Create accurate 2D drawings applying proper Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• BOM Management: Generate and manage accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs). Maintain organized CAD vaults and documentation.
• Prototyping & Troubleshooting: Work closely with assembly and production teams to build prototypes, conduct functional tests, and resolve mechanical issues during the build and integration phases.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate seamlessly with electrical, software, and systems engineers to ensure mechanical designs integrate flawlessly into the overall machine architecture.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline.

Experience:

3 to 5 years of proven experience in mechanical design within an industrial automation or equipment manufacturing environment.

Technical Proficiency:

Highly proficient in SolidWorks for both 3D solid modeling and 2D drafting.

Core Knowledge:

Strong foundational knowledge of engineering principles, kinematics, pneumatics, sensor integration, and material selection (metals, engineering plastics).

Communication:

Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications (The "Nice-to-Haves")

• Industry Expertise: Direct experience designing semiconductor test handlers or related wafer/IC handling equipment.
• Process Optimization: Familiarity with streamlining design workflows, such as utilizing Excel macros/VBA to automate BOM generation or manage SolidWorks file data.
• Component Sourcing: Experience selecting and sizing standard OEM components (e.g., linear guides, motors, actuators, pneumatics) for precision motion control.
