Job summary

SY Plastic Industries Sdn Bhd in Penang seeks a Mechanical Applications Engineer to review drawings, verify tolerances, and support plastic manufacturing projects with Engineering, Production, Purchasing, and Quality teams. You will liaise with suppliers to ensure requirements are met.

Requirements include a Diploma/Degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering, knowledge of CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, STEP), and the ability to read technical drawings.

Qualifications

• Diploma/degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
• Experience in plastic manufacturing or engineering environment is an advantage.
• Able to read and understand technical drawings.
• Mandarin language proficiency to communicate with Mandarin-speaking clients.

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret customer drawings using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and STEP files.
• Verify drawing dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T requirements.
• Check and confirm material specifications according to customer requirements.
• Prepare and maintain Bill of Materials (BOM).
• Source and select suitable standard components.
• Verify purchased components and items against approved drawings and specifications.
• Liaise with suppliers regarding technical specifications, quotations, and product requirements.
• Provide technical support for RFQ preparation.
• Coordinate production activities with subcontractors to ensure requirements are met.
• Assist with First Article Inspection (FAI) and preparation of relevant quality documentation.
• Work closely with Engineering, Production, Purchasing, Quality, and suppliers to resolve technical issues.
• Must be able to understand, read, write, and communicate fluently in Mandarin language.
• Perform other engineering-related duties as assigned by management.

Mechanical Application Engineer – Job Responsibilities

Review and interpret customer drawings using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and STEP files.

Verify drawing dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) requirements.

Check and confirm material specifications according to customer requirements.

Prepare and maintain Bill of Materials (BOM).

Source and select suitable standard components.

Verify purchased components and items against approved drawings and specifications.

Liaise with suppliers regarding technical specifications, quotations, and product requirements.

Provide technical support for RFQ (Request for Quotation) preparation.

Coordinate production activities with subcontractors to ensure requirements are met.

Assist with First Article Inspection (FAI) and preparation of relevant quality documentation.

Work closely with Engineering, Production, Purchasing, Quality, and suppliers to resolve technical issues.

Requirements

Diploma / Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.

Experience in plastic manufacturing or engineering environment is an advantage.

Basic knowledge of mechanical design, manufacturing processes, and engineering drawings.

Able to read and understand technical drawings and specifications.

Good problem-solving and analytical skills.

Good communication and teamwork skills.

Able to work independently and handle multiple tasks.

Knowledge of CAD software is an advantage.
