Job summary

Intel Malaysia in Penang is seeking a high-energy Manufacturing Operations Manager to lead our production team on a rotating day/night schedule. You will ensure safety, quality, and throughput while maintaining a strong presence on the factory floor.

The role requires onsite work, effective staff leadership, and close collaboration with engineering to resolve operational issues and optimize manufacturing performance across shifts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline (or Master's MBA/technical field).
  • 2–6 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership, equipment reliability, problem-solving and driving operational performance.
  • Willingness to work onsite in Penang and support shift work.
  • Experience in startup-style, fast-paced environments and managing stress.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technicians and oversee operations, equipment maintenance, and repair in manufacturing facilities.
  • Own safety, quality, scheduling, and conflict resolution amongst staff and stakeholders.
  • Oversee flow of work and streamline processes between groups/divisions.
  • Establish tactical production plans to meet schedules within quality and cost targets.
  • Ensure optimum safety, quality, output and cost through staffing and training.
  • Understand maintenance, repair, recovery, troubleshooting, and tool run rate.
  • Serve as first responder for on-shift issues within assigned toolset/area.
  • Work with engineering to resolve process health and efficiency issues.
  • Manage staffing, workstation assignments, shift rotations, PTO, overtime and training needs.
  • Develop long-term strategies for manufacturing operations capabilities.
  • Drive performance by mentoring, enforcing Intel values, and fostering a productive environment.

Job Description: We are seeking a high-energy, hands-on Manufacturing Operations Manager to lead our production team. This role is designed for a leader who thrives in the heart of the action and possesses the operational agility to manage a dynamic, rotating schedule. You will be responsible for ensuring safety, quality, and throughput while maintaining a consistent presence on the factory floor.

This role requires onsite presence to manage essential staff while following a weekly day/night rotation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Managers of onsite essential roles are expected to be onsite to support operational needs.
  • Manages and leads a team of technicians overseeing operations, equipment maintenance, and repair in manufacturing facilities.
  • Owns safety, quality, scheduling, and conflict resolution amongst staff and other stakeholders and assists in resolving operational, safety, and security issues.
  • Oversees flow of work through factories and streamlining processes and operations between groups and divisions.
  • Establishes tactical plans to ensure production schedules are met within established quality and cost objectives.
  • Ensures optimum total area performance in terms of safety, quality, output, and cost through staffing training development and retention of the group.
  • Understands scheduled and unscheduled equipment maintenance, repair, recovery, troubleshooting, tool quality, and tool run rate.
  • Assumes direct ownership and acts as the first responder of all onshift issues within assigned toolset or area.
  • Works with engineering teams to solve problems impacting factory operations/health.
  • Ensures effective employee staffing including workstation assignment, shift rotations, and PTO requests.
  • Owns shift schedule including workstation assignments/rotations, employee training, employee vacations, employee breaks, overtime assignment, backup for absent employees, and shift rotations.
  • Establishes training plans for direct reports and monitor training performance against schedule to assure shift team has skills needed to sustain production.
  • Regularly reviews staffing certification levels that are tied to wafer ramp levels and ensures performance required number of certified individuals for each ramp threshold.
  • Develops long-term strategies for manufacturing operations capabilities to support future requirements.
  • Responsible for enabling teams to execute through clear goal setting, facilitating work, maintaining accountability, applying differentiated performance management, and driving team results.
  • Drives results by inspiring people, role modeling Intel values, developing the capabilities of others, and ensuring a productive work environment.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Sciences, or a related technical discipline, OR a Master's degree (MBA or relevant technical field).
  • Minimum 2 to 6 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership and technical expertise in equipment reliability, problem-solving, team development, manufacturing excellence, and driving operational performance.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup-style environment and effectively manage stress.
  • Willingness and ability to work onsite in Penang and support shift work as required by business and manufacturing operations needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in manufacturing operations, equipment engineering, quality systems, process control, continuous improvement, and high-volume production environments.
  • Semiconductor manufacturing experience, including assembly and/or test operations, production ramp support, equipment qualification, process optimization, quality management, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing quality methodologies and tools, including root cause analysis, statistical process control, operational excellence practices, and Lean Six Sigma principles.
  • Experience developing technical talent, leading cross-functional initiatives, and driving equipment, process, quality, reliability, and productivity improvements in a manufacturing environment.
