Job summary

EMREKA GROUP SDN BHD is seeking an experienced M&E Coordinator in Malaysia to oversee and coordinate mechanical and electrical works on construction projects. You will liaise with project managers, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure installations align with drawings, specifications, schedules, and safety standards.

Your responsibilities include reviewing drawings, coordinating builders' work, monitoring site activities, and ensuring QA/QC, scheduling, and handover readiness

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
• 3-5 years of relevant experience in M&E coordination within construction.
• Experience coordinating M&E works on building construction or infrastructure projects.
• Good knowledge of M&E building services and coordination practices.
• Ability to read and interpret M&E drawings, shop drawings, and specs.
• Familiarity with HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, fire protection, and other services.

Job description

We are looking for a dedicated, detail-oriented, and experienced M&E Coordinator to oversee and coordinate mechanical and electrical (M&E) works for construction projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating M&E activities with civil and structural works, architectural works, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and the project management team to ensure all installations comply with approved drawings, specifications, project schedules, quality standards, and safety requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. M&E Project Coordination

Coordinate all mechanical and electrical works throughout the construction project lifecycle.

Liaise with the Project Manager, Site Engineers, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and other relevant parties.

Coordinate M&E installation activities with civil, structural, and architectural works to avoid clashes and delays.

Attend project coordination meetings and provide updates on M&E progress, technical issues, and outstanding matters.

Ensure M&E works are executed according to approved drawings, specifications, and project requirements.

2. Technical Drawings and Design Coordination

Review and interpret M&E drawings, layouts, schematics, specifications, and related technical documents.

Coordinate the review of mechanical and electrical shop drawings, builders' work drawings, and as-built drawings.

Identify discrepancies, design conflicts, and clashes between M&E services and other building components.

Coordinate drawing revisions and obtain the necessary clarification or approval from consultants.

Assist in resolving technical issues and proposing practical solutions for site implementation.

Coordinate M&E builders' work requirements, including openings, sleeves, embedded conduits, plinths, and equipment foundations, where applicable.

3. Site Supervision and Installation Monitoring

Monitor daily M&E site activities to ensure work is carried out according to approved drawings and method statements.

Coordinate the installation of mechanical systems, including HVAC, ventilation, plumbing, sanitary systems, fire protection, and other relevant services, as applicable to the project.

Coordinate electrical installations, including power distribution, lighting, wiring, containment systems, earthing, and other relevant electrical services.

Monitor the progress and workmanship of M&E subcontractors.

Ensure materials, equipment, and installation methods comply with project specifications.

Conduct regular site inspections and coordinate the rectification of installation defects.

4. Project Scheduling and Progress Monitoring

Coordinate M&E work programmes with the overall construction schedule.

Monitor site progress against project milestones and agreed deadlines.

Identify potential delays, resource constraints, and coordination issues affecting M&E activities.

Follow up with subcontractors to ensure sufficient manpower, materials, tools, and equipment are available.

Prepare regular M&E progress reports and highlight critical issues to the Project Manager.

Assist in developing recovery plans when M&E works fall behind schedule.

5. Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC)

Ensure M&E installations comply with approved drawings, technical specifications, relevant standards, and project quality requirements.

Coordinate inspection requests, testing records, and quality documentation.

Monitor installation quality and ensure non-conformance issues are rectified promptly.

Coordinate inspections with consultants, clients, and relevant authorities where required.

Ensure proper documentation and approval of materials, equipment, samples, and technical submissions.

Maintain accurate records of site inspections, testing, and commissioning activities.

6. Materials and Procurement Coordination

Coordinate M&E material submissions, technical data sheets, material samples, and approval processes.

Monitor material delivery schedules and ensure materials are available according to site requirements.

Liaise with procurement teams, suppliers, and subcontractors to resolve material-related issues.

Verify that delivered materials and equipment comply with approved specifications.

Monitor material usage and report shortages, discrepancies, or potential wastage.

Assist in tracking long-lead equipment and critical materials to prevent project delays.

7. Testing, Commissioning and Handover

Coordinate testing and commissioning activities for M&E systems.

Ensure all required inspections, functional tests, and performance tests are completed.

Follow up on outstanding defects and ensure rectification works are completed before handover.

Coordinate the preparation and submission of testing and commissioning reports.

Ensure as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, warranties, and other handover documents are properly prepared.

Assist with authority inspections, system approvals, practical completion, and final handover, as applicable.

8. Health, Safety and Regulatory Compliance

Ensure M&E works comply with applicable occupational safety and health requirements and site safety procedures.

Coordinate with safety personnel and subcontractors to identify and mitigate hazards associated with M&E installation works.

Monitor safe work practices for electrical works, working at height, lifting operations, confined spaces, and other relevant activities.

Ensure appropriate permits, risk assessments, and method statements are in place where required.

Support compliance with applicable Malaysian laws, technical standards, utility requirements, and authority regulations.

9. Documentation and Reporting

Prepare and maintain M&E coordination reports, inspection records, meeting minutes, and technical correspondence.

Monitor the status of shop drawings, material submissions, RFIs, inspection requests, and technical approvals.

Maintain records of installation progress, testing results, outstanding issues, and rectification works.

Assist in preparing weekly and monthly project progress reports.

Ensure project documentation is properly updated, controlled, and submitted within the required timelines.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or an equivalent relevant qualification.

Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience in M&E coordination within the construction industry.

Experience coordinating M&E works on building construction or infrastructure projects.

Good knowledge of mechanical and electrical building services, installation practices, and construction coordination.

Ability to read and interpret M&E drawings, shop drawings, technical specifications, and construction documents.

Familiarity with M&E coordination, including HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, sanitary, fire protection, and other relevant building services.

Knowledge of construction sequencing, site coordination, quality control, and project scheduling.

Familiarity with Malaysian construction regulations, applicable technical standards, and relevant authority requirements.

Proficient in Microsoft Office; knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Navisworks, or other relevant coordination software is an advantage.

Good communication, coordination, documentation, and problem-solving skills.

Able to work independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams.

Willing to travel to project sites and work according to project requirements.
