Job summary

Exyte Malaysia Sdn Bhd is seeking a Lifting Coordinator for a data center construction project in Cyberjaya. You will plan, coordinate and supervise all lifting activities, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with Malaysian regulations and project requirements.

You will collaborate with construction, engineering, logistics, HSE, and equipment teams to align lifting with the construction programme and avoid disruption to critical works.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant experience in lifting coordination or heavy lifting projects.

Responsibilities

Job description

The Lifting Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, supervising, and monitoring all lifting and heavy-material handling activities on the data center construction project. The role ensures that lifting operations are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved lifting plans, method statements, applicable Malaysian regulations, project requirements, and industry best practices.

The Lifting Coordinator will work closely with the construction, engineering, logistics, HSE, subcontractor, and equipment teams to ensure that lifting activities are properly planned and coordinated without impacting critical project works, site access, or construction schedules.

Key Responsibilities

Lifting Planning & Coordination

Coordinate all lifting activities across the project, including lifting of MEP equipment, structural components, generators, transformers, switchgear, AHUs/CRAC units, chillers, cable trays, steelwork, and other heavy or oversized materials.

Review lifting requirements, equipment size, dimensions, lifting points, center of gravity, access routes, and delivery constraints.

Coordinate preparation and review of lifting plans, lifting studies, method statements, risk assessments, and lifting procedures.

Ensure appropriate cranes, lifting equipment, accessories, and personnel are available for planned activities.

Coordinate crane positioning, setup areas, lifting zones, exclusion zones, access routes, and material laydown areas.

Develop and maintain a lifting schedule aligned with the overall project construction programme.

Coordinate lifting activities with other trades to prevent clashes and disruption to ongoing works.

Site Execution

Supervise and coordinate lifting operations at site to ensure compliance with approved lifting plans and procedures.

Conduct pre-lift coordination meetings and toolbox briefings with relevant personnel.

Verify that cranes, lifting appliances, accessories, and equipment are suitable and within their certified capacity.

Ensure lifting operations are carried out by competent and authorized personnel.

Monitor critical and complex lifts and ensure appropriate controls are implemented.

Stop lifting operations where unsafe conditions, deviations, equipment issues, or unexpected site conditions are identified.

Coordinate crane mobilization, setup, dismantling, and relocation activities.

Ensure lifting areas are properly barricaded and controlled during operations.

Coordinate with traffic marshals and logistics teams for safe movement of lifting equipment and heavy loads.

Safety & Compliance

Ensure lifting operations comply with applicable Malaysian legislation, DOSH requirements, project HSE standards, and recognized lifting practices.

Ensure all lifting equipment and accessories have valid inspection, testing, certification, and statutory documentation.

Verify ground conditions, crane outrigger requirements, load-bearing capacity, overhead obstructions, underground services, and other site constraints before lifting.

Participate in lifting risk assessments, pre-start inspections, and safety audits.

Investigate and report lifting-related incidents, near misses, unsafe acts, and equipment failures.

Promote a strong safety culture and ensure all lifting personnel understand their responsibilities.

Coordination & Documentation

Liaise with Construction Managers, Site Managers, Engineers, HSE personnel, Logistics, Procurement, subcontractors, crane companies, and equipment suppliers.

Review subcontractor lifting plans and provide technical input where required.

Maintain lifting registers, crane records, inspection certificates, lifting accessory registers, and related documentation.

Track planned versus completed lifting activities and report progress to project management.

Identify potential lifting constraints and communicate them to the project team at an early stage.

Support project planning teams with lifting requirements, crane utilization, and logistics planning.

Ensure lessons learned from lifting activities are captured and implemented.

Requirements

Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in lifting coordination, heavy lifting, construction, or industrial projects.

Experience working on data center, industrial, commercial, infrastructure, or major MEP construction projects is preferred.

Strong practical knowledge of crane operations, lifting equipment, rigging, slinging, and heavy material handling.

Experience coordinating mobile cranes, crawler cranes, tower cranes, forklifts, telehandlers, and other lifting equipment.

Ability to interpret lifting plans, crane load charts, equipment specifications, and technical drawings.

Good understanding of lifting risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work.

Familiarity with Malaysian HSE and statutory requirements, including relevant DOSH requirements.

Knowledge of recognized lifting standards and practices is advantageous.

Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.

Able to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-security data center construction environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant lifting/rigging competency or certification.

Experience as a Lifting Supervisor, Appointed Person, Lifting Coordinator, or equivalent.

Experience with critical lifts and heavy/complex MEP equipment installation.

Experience coordinating lifting activities within restricted or congested construction sites.

Familiarity with data center construction sequencing and MEP installation.

Experience working with international contractors, consultants, and specialist subcontractors.
