Job summary

Meili Resort Hotel Sdn Bhd in Semporna, Sabah is seeking a Lifeguard (Pool & Sea) to safeguard guests at pool and sea areas. You will monitor swimmers, enforce rules, perform water rescues, provide first aid/CPR, inspect safety gear, and coordinate during sea emergencies.

The role requires certification, physical fitness, and willingness to work shifts including weekends. Fluency in Bahasa Malaysia and basic English is required; knowledge of Chinese/Mandarin is an added advantage.

Qualifications

• Minimum SPM qualification or equivalent.
• Must possess a valid and recognised Lifeguard Certification.
• Valid First Aid and CPR certification is required.
• Minimum two (2) years of working experience as a Lifeguard, preferably in a hotel, resort, swimming pool or beach environment.
• Strong swimming skills and confidence in both pool and open-water environments.
• Knowledge of water rescue techniques, emergency response and drowning prevention.
• Physically fit, alert and able to respond quickly during emergencies.
• Able to communicate effectively in Bahasa Malaysia and basic English.
• Ability to speak, read and write in Chinese/Mandarin will be an added advantage.
• Responsible, disciplined, observant and able to remain calm under pressure.
• Willing to work shifts, weekends, public holidays and overtime when required.
• Willing to be stationed at MEILI Resort Hotel, Semporna, Sabah.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and supervise guests at the swimming pool and designated sea swimming areas to ensure their safety at all times.
• Prevent accidents, drowning incidents and unsafe swimming activities through constant observation and enforcement of safety rules.
• Perform water rescue and provide immediate assistance to guests in distress.
• Administer basic first aid and CPR when required.
• Ensure swimming pool and designated sea areas are safe for guest activities before allowing swimming.
• Check and maintain life-saving equipment, including lifebuoys, rescue tubes, life jackets and first aid kits.
• Conduct regular inspections of pool areas, beach areas and surrounding facilities to identify potential hazards.
• Monitor weather, sea conditions, tides and water visibility, and inform the supervisor of unsafe swimming conditions.
• Display warning signs or restrict swimming activities when conditions are unsafe.
• Ensure guests follow swimming pool and sea safety regulations.
• Maintain cleanliness and proper organisation of lifeguard stations and safety equipment.
• Maintain accurate records of incidents, accidents, rescues and safety inspections.
• Report all accidents, injuries, safety concerns and emergency situations to the supervisor immediately.
• Coordinate with the resort's Boatman and relevant departments during sea-related emergencies.
• Be flexible and willing to work extra hours, overtime, weekends and public holidays according to operational requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the management from time to time.
