Job summary

Southern Steel Berhad is seeking an experienced Legal Manager to support its expanding business in Malaysia. The role focuses on practical legal solutions, contract management, compliance and risk oversight across units, with collaboration across stakeholders.

The successful candidate will join a well-established manufacturing group, handling corporate and commercial matters, litigation support, policy development and training. Excellent English communication is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB) and admission to the bar.
• Minimum 7 years of relevant legal experience.
• Strong knowledge of corporate and commercial law, contract management, compliance and risk management.
• Experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts and legal documents.
• Strong drafting, negotiation and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities.
• Excellent command of spoken and written English; Mandarin is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide advice on contract negotiation, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and risk management.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, commercial agreements, and other key legal documents to ensure alignment with business objectives and compliance requirements.
• Monitor legal developments and ensure the company adheres to applicable laws and regulations, updating policies as needed to stay compliant.
• Identify and manage potential legal risks in operations, recommending strategies to minimize exposure and protect the business.
• Oversee and manage litigation matters, working closely with external counsel to achieve effective outcomes and keep stakeholders informed.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to offer practical, business-centric legal solutions and ensure clear communication.
• Facilitate training sessions to educate employees on legal topics, raise awareness of compliance standards, and improve legal understanding across the organization.
• Support the cultivation and practice of 5S workplace standards to promote continuous improvement in productivity, quality, efficiency, and overall working conditions.

Based on the JD, the role supports various business units and covers contracts, compliance, risk management, litigation, advisory services, policy development and training.

Requirements
