Job summary
Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia Sdn Bhd is seeking a senior legal counsel to oversee contract governance, strategic risk management and compliance across business units in Malaysia. The role includes drafting and negotiating contracts, advising on significant commercial decisions and coordinating with external counsel as needed.
The successful candidate will have 10–12 years of post-qualification experience, fluent English and Bahasa Malaysia, and a strong background in corporate and regulatory
Qualifications
- Recognized Bachelor of Laws (LLB) with at least Second Class Honours.
- 10-12 years of relevant post-qualification experience.
- Experience in a reputable law firm and/or in-house legal role, preferably in automotive, dealer networks, manufacturing, or similar industries.
- Strong background in commercial, corporate, and compliance matters.
- Good stakeholder management, business partnering, and leadership capabilities.
- Able to support management decision-making and influence stakeholders.
- Proficient in using AI and legal technology to improve legal processes.
- Commercially minded, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong legal research, communication, and analytical skills.
- Fluent in English and Bahasa Malaysia (written and spoken).
- Willing to work beyond normal office hours when required.
Responsibilities
- Provide practical, commercially focused legal advice to management and business units on operational, commercial and strategic matters.
- Draft, review, negotiate and advise on contracts, agreements, legal notices, correspondence and other legal documents.
- Oversee contract risk assessment, contract lifecycle management and stamp duty compliance.
- Advise stakeholders on legal implications of business initiatives, projects, transactions and operational decisions.
- Engage and coordinate with external legal counsel when specialist advice or representation is required.
- Identify, assess and mitigate legal and regulatory risks arising from operations, projects and commercial arrangements.
- Lead and oversee litigation, claims, investigations, disputes and enforcement matters with external counsel and relevant stakeholders.
- Develop, implement and monitor compliance initiatives, policies, procedures and controls.
- Conduct legal and compliance awareness programs, training sessions and targeted briefings for employees and management.
- Apply legal technology and AI for contract triage, clause comparison, legal research, drafting and knowledge management, with appropriate verification, confidentiality controls and professional accountability.

Provide guidance on anti-bribery and corruption, personal data protection, competition law, consumerprotectionand intellectual property.
Collaborate with Internal Control, RiskManagementand business stakeholders to address compliance gaps and strengthen governance.
Conduct legal and compliance awarenessprograms, training sessions and targeted briefings for employees and management.
Develop guidance materials, templates, standardformsand best practices to improve legal and compliance processes.
Mentor team members and build legal,complianceand governance capability within the department.
Promote ethical conduct, complianceawarenessand risk ownership throughout theorganization.
