Job summary

Sime Darby Motors is seeking a Senior Legal Associate to draft and review agreements protecting the rights and interests of operating units in Malaysia. The role involves providing practical legal advice across the group and handling court matters with external counsels.

Required qualifications include an LLB (Hons), Certificate of Legal Practice, and admission to the Malaysian Bar, with 5–7 years of post-qualification experience. Proficiency in English and Bahasa Malaysia is essential.

Qualifications

• LLB (Hons) degree required.
• Certificate of Legal Practice essential.
• Admitted as Advocate & Solicitor to Malaysian Bar essential.
• 5–7 years of post-admission experience in legal practice preferred.
• Experience drafting/reviewing tenancy, supply, services and confidentiality agreements.
• Experience drafting/reviewing litigation documents and court papers.

Responsibilities

• Draft and review agreements to protect operating units' rights and minimize legal risks.
• Draft and review responses to customer letters.
• Prepare legal matter documentation/reports.
• Attend court matters with external counsel and draft related court papers.
• Update litigation status in the database.
• Provide legal advice to operating units.

Job Responsibility

• Draft and review agreements to ensure operating units’ legal rights and interests are protected and/or enforced and to minimize any legal risks or breaches of law/contract.
• Draft and review the operating units’ replies to customer’s letters.
• Prepare legal matters documentation/reports.
• Attend to the court matters with external legal counsels and includes review/draft of witness statements, statement of defence and any other related court papers.
• Update the status of court actions in the litigation database.
• Provide workable legal advice to the operating units whenever they raise any questions/concerns in relation to their matters.
• Assist the Head of Legal in legal work matter(s) delegated to the Job Holder.

Requirement

• Degree in Law – LLB (Hons)
• Certificate of Legal Practice is essential.
• Admission as Advocate & Solicitor to Malaysian Bar is essential.
• Experienced as a Legal or Senior Legal Associate for a duration of 5 – 7 years after admission to the Malaysian Bar.
• Experienced in drafting/reviewing tenancy agreement, supply agreement, services agreement, confidentiality/non-disclosure agreement and any miscellaneous type/kinds of operational agreement.
• Experienced in drafting/reviewing of litigation documents to be filed in court.
• Experienced in drafting/reviewing of any defence statement(s) be filed in any consumer tribunal matter.
• Attention to detail and meticulous in legal work.
• Good verbal and written communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
