Job summary

PETROS seeks an experienced Mechanical Static & Piping specialist to lead delivery of static equipment and piping design across the full project lifecycle, from FEED through commissioning and operations. The role emphasizes integrity, regulatory compliance, and engineering excellence within a collaborative project team.

You will mentor engineers, drive adherence to ASME/API/ISO standards, and collaborate with operations, maintenance and procurement to ensure reliable, safe and cost-effective

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from a recognized institution.
• Registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM); PE status desirable; 15+ years in oil & gas/petrochemical with at least 5 years in senior/static piping.
• Familiar with international standards and codes (ASME/API/ISO) and engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

• Deliver advanced Mechanical Static & Piping discipline expertise across the project lifecycle.
• Lead design, specification and selection of static equipment (pressure vessels, tanks, piping, heat exchangers).
• Ensure engineering deliverables meet HSE, integrity, cost-effectiveness and reliability requirements.
• Oversee regulatory compliance (e.g., DOSH) and support certification for static equipment.
• Coach engineers within the discipline to build internal capabilities.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, project management, procurement and vendors.

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Static & Piping discipline expertise to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering high-level expertise in static mechanical equipment and piping systems throughout the entire project lifecycle. This includes the design, integrity, and reliability of pressure vessels, storage tanks, heat exchangers, and piping systems to ensure they meet technical, regulatory, and operational standards. The role provides technical assurance, drives engineering excellence, and supports the development of PETROS’ in-house capabilities by coaching and mentoring talent within the Mechanical Static & Piping discipline.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver advanced Mechanical Static & Piping discipline expertise across the project lifecycle—covering front-end engineering, detailed design, construction, commissioning, operations, and maintenance.
• Exercise and continuously improve Mechanical Static & Piping discipline engineering standards, ensuring quality technical assurance, proper management of change, and control of engineering deviations.
• Lead the design, specification, selection of static equipment such as pressure vessels, tanks, piping systems, and heat exchangers, in accordance with industry codes.
• Ensure all engineering deliverables meet the specified HSE, integrity, cost-effectiveness, and operational reliability requirements.
• Oversee and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., DOSH) and support certification for static equipment. Provide technical leadership and coaching to engineers within the Mechanical Static & Piping discipline skill pool to build internal technical capabilities.
• Lead and support the development and enhancement of discipline-specific competencies within PETROS through structured knowledge sharing, mentoring, and technical forums.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, maintenance, project management, procurement, and external consultants/vendors to ensure effective project delivery and operational readiness.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
• Registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM); Professional Engineer (PE) status is highly desirable. At least having a min. of 15 years of relevant experience in the oil & gas, energy, or petrochemical industry, with at least 5 years in a senior or lead static mechanical/piping engineering role.
• Strong expertise in the Mechanical Static & Piping discipline across the full project lifecycle, including front-end engineering, design, construction, and commissioning. Possession of professional engineering accreditation and/or Technical Authority (TA) competency certification in Mechanical Static or Piping discipline is an added advantage.
• Familiarity and has in-depth knowledge in relevant international standards and codes (e.g., ASME, API, ISO).
• Familiar with Engineering drawings and various software applications for equipment & piping design
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills as well as ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
