Job summary

Ryt Bank is seeking a Lead Backend Engineer to drive scalable backend systems for Malaysia's digital banking platform. You will shape architecture, mentor engineers, and collaborate across product and domain PODs to deliver reliable, secure, and high-performance services.

We value deep systems thinking, sound technical decisions, and the ability to influence direction while maintaining quality as the product and customer base grow. Five+ years of backend leadership experience is ideal.

Qualifications

• Citizenship requirement: Malaysians only.
• Strong proficiency in Java or other object-oriented programming languages (OOP).
• Strong understanding of messaging systems such as Kafka or equivalent.
• Experience with relational (e.g., PostgreSQL) and non-relational databases.
• Familiarity with designing and consuming web APIs of reasonable complexity.
• Hands-on experience with containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
• At least 7+ years of backend software development experience.

About the Role

As a Lead Backend Engineer, you will sit at the intersection of architecture, engineering excellence, and team leadership. You will shape how our backend platform evolves, guide and mentor engineers in making sound technical decisions, and ensure our systems scale reliably as our products and customers grow. This role is for someone who goes beyond writing great code. You think in systems, understanding tradeoffs, influence technical direction, and help teams move faster without compromising quality. You will work closely cross-functionally with Products and cross-domain PODs to design and deliver critical backend capabilities that power our banking platform. If you enjoy designing complex systems, solving challenging problems, mentoring engineers, and turning ambiguity into clear technical direction, this role is for you.
