Job summary

GESTOWN CONSTRUCTION SDN BHD in Bintulu, Sarawak is seeking a Laboratory Technician Assistant (Construction) to join its Quality Assurance & Control team. The role involves conducting material testing, maintaining equipment, and documenting results to ensure construction materials meet stringent quality standards.

You will support on-site testing and reporting, prepare samples, calibrate equipment, and assist with QA documentation for project records, contributing to safe, durable infrastructure

Qualifications

• A qualification in Science, Laboratory Technology, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or relevant vocational training in laboratory operations.
• Previous experience in a construction laboratory environment or similar quality testing facility is highly desirable
• Strong understanding of construction materials, testing procedures, and quality control principles
• Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and testing apparatus
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records and documentation
• Strong organisational and time management skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team within a structured laboratory environment
• Good communication skills and ability to report findings clearly and accurately
• Physical capability to perform hands-on laboratory work
• Knowledge of relevant construction standards and testing methods (BS, ASTM, or Malaysian standards) is advantageous
• A commitment to safety and adherence to health and safety regulations

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine testing and quality checks on construction materials.
• Prepare material samples for laboratory testing and ensure proper sample handling, labeling, and storage.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and testing apparatus, ensuring calibration and functionality.
• Record, document, and report all test results accurately and in a timely manner.
• Assist in the preparation of laboratory reports and quality assurance documentation for project records.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and keep the workspace clean and organized.
• Support senior laboratory personnel in conducting more complex testing procedures and investigations.
• Identify non-conforming materials and communicate findings to project management and quality teams.
• Follow all health and safety protocols while in the laboratory environment.
• Assist with on-site testing and inspections as required to support construction activities.

About the role
GESTOWN CONSTRUCTION SDN BHD is seeking a Laboratory Technician Assistant (Construction) to join our Quality Assurance & Control team in Bintulu, Sarawak. This is a full-time position that plays a vital role in ensuring the quality and integrity of construction materials and components used across our projects. As a Laboratory Technician Assistant, you will support the laboratory operations by conducting material testing, maintaining equipment, and documenting test results to ensure all construction work meets stringent quality standards and regulatory requirements. This position is essential to our commitment to delivering safe, durable, and reliable construction projects.

Key responsibilities

• Conducting routine testing and quality checks on construction materials, including concrete, aggregates, steel, and other materials in accordance with established testing procedures and industry standards
• Preparing material samples for laboratory testing and ensuring proper sample handling, labelling, and storage
• Operating and maintaining laboratory equipment and testing apparatus, ensuring calibration and functionality
• Recording, documenting, and reporting all test results accurately and in a timely manner
• Assisting in the preparation of laboratory reports and quality assurance documentation for project records
• Maintaining accurate laboratory records and maintaining the cleanliness and organisation of the laboratory workspace
• Supporting senior laboratory personnel in conducting more complex testing procedures and investigations
• Identifying non-conforming materials and communicating findings to project management and quality teams
• Following all health and safety protocols and procedures whilst working in the laboratory environment
