Job summary

瀾華 Vanda Exquisite Chinese Cuisine in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a Kitchen Helper to support our culinary team. You will assist chefs with basic prep, maintain high cleanliness, and help keep the kitchen stocked for service.

Experience in a restaurant or commercial kitchen is a plus, but on‑the‑job training is provided. You should be able to stand for long periods, lift up to 15–20 kg, and work six days a week including weekends.

Qualifications

• Experience as Kitchen Helper, Dishwasher, or Commis Chef is a plus, but entry-level candidates are welcome (on-the-job training provided).
• Basic knife handling skills and familiarity with commercial kitchen cleaning equipment and food handling protocols.

Responsibilities

• Food Preparation: Assist cooks and chefs with basic meal prep, including washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning ingredients.
• Sanitation & Dishwashing: Operate commercial dishwashers, wash pots and utensils, ensure tableware is clean and sanitized.
• Kitchen Upkeep: Clean and sanitize kitchen work stations, equipment, counters, floors, and storage areas.
• Waste Management: Empty bins, manage food waste, ensure recycling protocols.
• Inventory & Stocking: Receive, unload, and store fresh produce and dry ingredients in walk‑ins and storerooms.
• Operational Support: Ensure kitchen tools and plates are accessible during peak service hours.
• Ad-Hoc Tasks: Any other duties assigned by Head Chef or Kitchen Management.

Job description

We are looking for an energetic and reliable Kitchen Helper to join our culinary team. You will support our chefs and cooks with basic food preparation, maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, and ensure the kitchen area is well-stocked and running smoothly.

Key responsibilities

Food Preparation: Assist cooks and chefs with basic meal prep, including washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning ingredients (vegetables, meats, sauces).

Sanitation & Dishwashing: Operate commercial dishwashers, manually wash pots, pans, and kitchen utensils, and ensure all tableware is clean and sanitized for service.

Kitchen Upkeep: Clean and sanitize kitchen work stations, equipment, counters, floors, and food storage areas throughout the shift.

Waste Management: Empty garbage bins, manage food waste properly, and ensure recycling protocols are followed.

Inventory & Stocking: Receive, unload, and store fresh produce and dry ingredients into walk‑in chillers, freezers, and storerooms.

Operational Support: Ensure kitchen tools, cookware, and service plates are organized and readily accessible to the cooking line during peak service hours.

Ad-Hoc Tasks: Perform any other operational support duties reasonably assigned by the Head Chef or Kitchen Management.

About you

Experience: Prior experience as a Kitchen Helper, Dishwasher, or Commis Chef in a restaurant or commercial kitchen is a plus, but entry-level candidates are welcome to apply (on-the-job training provided).

Technical & Operational Skills: Basic knife handling skills and familiarity with commercial kitchen cleaning equipment and food handling protocols.

Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, work in a fast-paced environment, and lift kitchen items or ingredient crates (up to 15-20 kg).

Work Schedule: Willingness to work operational retail shift hours (6 days per week, including weekends, split shifts, and public holidays).

Personal Attributes: Strong work ethic, reliable team player, punctual, and highly attentive to cleanliness and hygiene standards.
