The Prestige Hotel on Penang Island is hiring a Commis to join a dynamic kitchen team. This full-time role offers hands-on experience under senior chefs, assisting with food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen operations in a busy hotel environment.

Fresh graduates are welcome, with a culinary qualification or training preferred. You’ll work to high standards of food safety, hygiene, and teamwork to support a smooth service during peak periods.

Qualifications

• Fresh graduates welcomed.
• Relevant culinary qualification or training (such as a certificate in hospitality or culinary arts) or equivalent practical experience.
• Demonstrated passion for cooking and the hospitality industry.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to food safety and hygiene standards.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
• Good communication skills and willingness to take direction from senior staff.
• Team player mentality with a positive and professional attitude.
• Basic knowledge of different cuisines and cooking methods.
• Time management skills and reliability in attendance.

Responsibilities

• Preparing and prepping ingredients including washing, peeling, chopping and portioning of vegetables, meats and other food items.
• Assisting senior chefs in the preparation and cooking of dishes according to established recipes and standards.
• Operating kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including ovens, grills, fryers and other cooking apparatus.
• Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout the kitchen, including workstations, utensils and cooking surfaces.
• Following food safety and sanitation regulations at all times.
• Supporting the plating and presentation of dishes to ensure consistency with hotel standards.
• Assisting with inventory management and reporting on stock levels.
• Working collaboratively with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth service during busy periods.
• Learning new cooking techniques and recipes under the mentorship of experienced chefs.
