Job summary

KTJ, also known as Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar, is seeking a Junior Chef to support daily kitchen operations under the guidance of the Assistant Head of Catering and the Sous Chef. The role emphasizes high standards in food preparation, hygiene, and safety while staying current with new recipes and techniques.

The Junior Chef may serve as shift leader in either the Primary or Secondary school kitchen, assisting with menu planning, inventory, and staff development.

Qualifications

• Experience in daily kitchen operations is advantageous.
• Familiarity with health and safety procedures and hygienic practices.
• Ability to manage stock, assist with menu planning and training of junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Operate and manage the shift to ensure a productive working environment.
• Be knowledgeable about all types of cooking.
• Relay orders to shift and ensure menus are prepared on time.
• Coordinate deliveries to cafes and daily events.
• Assist in training and developing cooks and kitchen helpers.
• Be responsible for stock and wastage control.
• Assist in maintaining and improving budgeted food cost.
• Provide courteous, professional service and address guest complaints promptly.
