Job summary

Radii Global is seeking a junior backend engineer in Malaysia to join an established product engineering team. You will work mainly on Java and Spring Boot services, backed by PostgreSQL and a versioned migration workflow, growing into owning full backend features within your first few sprints.

This delivery role includes mentoring; you will pick up scoped backend stories, design and implement endpoints with tests, and see changes through code review to a merged PR.

Qualifications

  • Java and Spring Boot: Working knowledge of Java and the Spring Boot ecosystem, including controllers, services, dependency injection and configuration. You have built and shipped real endpoints.
  • REST API design: Understands HTTP methods, status codes, request and response modelling, validation, pagination and error handling.
  • Relational databases: Comfortable with SQL and PostgreSQL, basic data modelling, indexes and joins, and understands why a schema change needs a migration.
  • Security basics: Understands token based authentication, role or permission checks, and why authorisation belongs on the server and not in the interface.
  • Testing: Writes unit tests, and is willing to learn integration testing against a real database.
  • Debugging: Can read a stack trace and application logs and work back to the cause instead of guessing.
  • Reads frontend code: Able to open a React and TypeScript codebase and find where your endpoint is called and how its response is used.
  • Runs the frontend locally: Comfortable starting the frontend application and checking your change in the actual interface before you call it done.
  • Understands the UI contract: Knows what a renamed field, a changed enum value or a new required field does to a live screen, and communicates it before merging.
  • Version control: Confident with Git: branching, commits, pull requests and responding to code review feedback.
  • Agile delivery: Comfortable working in two week sprints with an issue tracker such as Azure DevOps, Jira or similar.
  • Code review: Takes review comments as normal engineering practice, responds to every point, and re-checks the code before saying it is fixed.
  • Communication: Clear written English. Flags blockers early instead of going quiet.
  • AI coding tools: Hands on use of an AI coding assistant such as Claude Code, Cursor or GitHub Copilot in real work, not just experiments.
  • Prompt driven workflow: Able to give clear, structured instructions to scaffold, refactor, debug and document code.
  • Critical validation: Reviews and verifies AI generated output instead of accepting it blindly. You own the quality of everything you ship.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain REST endpoints, business logic and data access in Java and Spring Boot.
  • Design and implement database changes in PostgreSQL through versioned migrations, with care for existing data.
  • Implement authentication, authorisation and role based access rules correctly on every endpoint you touch.
  • Verify your endpoints against the frontend that consumes them, so contract changes do not silently break the UI.
  • Write unit and integration tests for what you ship, and keep the build green.
  • Take part in pull request reviews as an author, respond to every comment, and re-check the code before saying it is fixed.
  • Keep your work visible and current on the team's board, branches and pull requests in Azure DevOps.
  • Raise questions, risks and blockers early in standup and in writing.

Job description

Jora Malaysia will close on 9th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

We are looking for a junior backend engineer to join an established product engineering team. You will work mainly on our Java and Spring Boot services, backed by PostgreSQL and a versioned migration workflow, and you will grow into owning full backend features within your first few sprints.

This is a delivery role with real mentoring attached. You will pick up scoped backend stories, design and implement the endpoint and data changes they need, cover them with tests, and see them through code review to a merged pull request. You are not expected to be an expert on day one. You are expected to be careful with data, honest about what you have verified, and quick to absorb feedback.

One thing matters to us specifically: we do not want a backend engineer who stops at the API boundary. In our experience most defects live at the seam between frontend and backend. You should be able to open the frontend codebase, see how your endpoint is actually consumed, and confirm your change works in the interface instead of declaring it done at the controller.

Key responsibilities

Build and maintain REST endpoints, business logic and data access in Java and Spring Boot.

Design and implement database changes in PostgreSQL through versioned migrations, with care for existing data.

Implement authentication, authorisation and role based access rules correctly on every endpoint you touch.

Verify your endpoints against the frontend that consumes them, so contract changes do not silently break the UI.

Write unit and integration tests for what you ship, and keep the build green.

Take part in pull request reviews as an author, respond to every comment, and re-check the code before saying it is fixed.

Keep your work visible and current on the team's board, branches and pull requests in Azure DevOps.

Raise questions, risks and blockers early in standup and in writing.

About you

Java and Spring Boot: Working knowledge of Java and the Spring Boot ecosystem, including controllers, services, dependency injection and configuration. You have built and shipped real endpoints.

REST API design: Understands HTTP methods, status codes, request and response modelling, validation, pagination and error handling.

Relational databases: Comfortable with SQL and PostgreSQL, basic data modelling, indexes and joins, and understands why a schema change needs a migration.

Security basics: Understands token based authentication, role or permission checks, and why authorisation belongs on the server and not in the interface.

Debugging: Can read a stack trace and application logs and work back to the cause instead of guessing.

Reads frontend code: Able to open a React and TypeScript codebase and find where your endpoint is called and how its response is used. You do not need to be a frontend engineer, but you must not be blocked by frontend code.

Runs the frontend locally: Comfortable starting the frontend application and checking your change in the actual interface before you call it done.

Understands the UI contract: Knows what a renamed field, a changed enum value or a new required field does to a live screen, and communicates it before merging.

Version control: Confident with Git: branching, commits, pull requests and responding to code review feedback.

Agile delivery: Comfortable working in two week sprints with an issue tracker such as Azure DevOps, Jira or similar.

AI coding tools: Hands on use of an AI coding assistant such as Claude Code, Cursor or GitHub Copilot in real work, not just experiments.

Prompt driven workflow: Able to give clear, structured instructions to scaffold, refactor, debug and document code.

Critical validation: Reviews and verifies AI generated output instead of accepting it blindly. You own the quality of everything you ship.
