Job summary

Aurecon invites an experienced Electrical Inspector to join our project teams in Malaysia. You will supervise electrical construction on-site, review drawings and method statements, and ensure compliance with design, quality, and safety standards.

With a Diploma in Electrical Engineering, IOW registration with BEM, and at least 5 years' experience in large-scale buildings or data centers, you will coordinate with contractors and stakeholders and maintain meticulous inspection records.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Diploma in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Registered as Inspector of Works (IOW) with BEM.
• Minimum 5 years of electrical construction supervision/inspection experience.
• Experience with HT/MV/LV distribution, substations, switchgear, and lighting systems.
• Familiarity with electrical testing, commissioning, and QA processes.
• Proficient with MS Office; AutoCAD or BIM is an advantage.
• Fixed-term contract for 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Monitor daily electrical construction activities to ensure compliance with drawings and standards.
• Conduct site inspections and quality checks on electrical installations.
• Review drawings, shop drawings, method statements, and discrepancies.
• Witness inspections, testing, and commissioning; document results.
• Identify non-compliant works and issue memos; coordinate corrective actions.
• Assist in verifying progress claims based on on-site work.
• Support variation orders and changes related to electrical works.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, testing and project docs.
• Attend site meetings and coordinate with contractors, consultants, stakeholders.
• Promote health, safety and environmental requirements on site.

What will you do?

Job Responsibilities:

• Monitor daily electrical construction activities to ensure works are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, project requirements, and relevant standards.
• Conduct regular site inspections and quality checks on electrical installations to ensure compliance with design, quality, and safety requirements.
• Review electrical drawings, shop drawings, method statements, and technical submissions, and highlight any discrepancies or issues that require clarification.
• Witness inspections, testing, and commissioning activities, and maintain accurate records of results and observations.
• Identify non-compliant works and issue site observations or memos, following up with contractors to ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Assist in verifying contractors' monthly progress claims based on actual work completed on site.
• Support the assessment and verification of variation orders and changes related to electrical works.
• Maintain accurate records of site inspections, progress updates, testing activities, and project documentation.
• Attend site meetings and coordinate closely with contractors, consultants, and project stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
• Promote compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements across all site activities.

Qualifications:

• Must be at least a diploma holder in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
• Registered as an Inspector of Works (IOW) with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM). IOW (Intern) certificates will not be accepted
• Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical construction supervision or inspection, preferably within institutional, commercial, data center, or large-scale building projects
• Proven experience in Building Services Electrical Systems, including HT/MV/LV electrical distribution systems, substations, transformers, switchgear, power distribution, lighting systems, emergency power systems, fire alarm systems, ELV systems, earthing and lightning protection systems, and associated electrical infrastructure
• Good knowledge of electrical systems, data center infrastructure, local construction practices, and relevant codes and standards
• Familiarity with electrical testing, commissioning, and quality assurance processes
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications; knowledge of AutoCAD and BIM software is an advantage
• Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills
• Detail-oriented with the ability to prepare and maintain accurate inspection records and reports
• Must be open to working on a 1-year fixed-term contract
