Job summary

Nong Geng Ji in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a young, energetic individual to join our kitchen team, specializing in authentic Hunan cuisine. This hands-on, fast-paced role is ideal for someone who wants to grow culinary skills in a traditional and flavorful cooking style.

You will assist with food preparation, support line cooks during service, maintain clean workstations, and ensure consistency in taste and presentation while following safety standards.

Qualifications

• Energetic, reliable and willing to learn.
• Able to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
• Willing to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Basic knife skills or willingness to be trained.
• Interest in or familiarity with Chinese/Hunan cuisine is a plus.
• Team player with a positive attitude.
• Good stamina to stand for extended periods and lift up to ~12kg.
• No prior experience required; training provided.

Responsibilities

• Assist with food preparation (washing, cutting, marinating, prepping proteins and vegetables)
• Support line cooks and chefs during service, ensuring dishes are prepared to standard and on time
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations, equipment, and storage areas
• Follow recipes and portioning guidelines to ensure consistency in taste and presentation
• Assist with inventory checks, stocking, and receiving deliveries
• Adhere to food safety and hygiene standards at all times
• Support dishwashing and kitchen sanitation duties as needed
• Work collaboratively with the team during busy service periods
