Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical Renewable Energy Engineering or related field.
• SEDA GCPV PV System Design qualification or equivalent.
• 5+ years in PV industry with utility-scale, rooftop solar and BESS/EMS/SCADA exposure.
• Minimum 3 years in leadership/managerial roles within a technical field.
• Experience with electrical power and medium voltage systems; knowledge of Malaysia policies.
• Strong leadership and team-building abilities with strategic thinking.
• Proficient in PVsyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD, Google SketchUp, and single-line diagrams.
• Fluent in English and Malay; Mandarin is an advantage.

Job description

This pivotal role will lead the Technical & Engineering Department in overseeing the design, development, and delivery of solutions across large-scale solar (LSS) , rooftop Commercial & Industrial (C&I) Solar and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with EMS/ SCADA integration. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in renewable energy, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven ability to drive and deliver technical excellence, innovative and cost-effective solutions.

Responsibilities:

As a Head of Technical, you will be responsible for both technical oversight and team leadership.

• Guide Project Lifecycle:Lead the engineering team through the entire project lifecycle, from initial design and testing to successful execution and delivery of large-scale solar projects.
• Optimize System Design:Provide expert technical guidance to ensure optimal system design, seamless integration, and efficient delivery of solar solutions, including oversight of feasibility studies, energy yield assessments and shading analysis.
• Resolve Complex Challenges:Effectively diagnose and resolve intricate technical issues, even under tight deadlines.
• Strategic Collaboration:Foster strong collaboration with cross-functional teams, ensuring smooth coordination throughout all project phases.
• Cost-Effective Solutions:Analyze and recommend innovative, efficient, and cost-effective design options to maximize project profitability and sustainability.
• Tender Management:Prepare comprehensive commercial and technical proposals for Request for Proposal (RFP) and Request for Quotation (RFQ) submissions.
• Continuous Improvement:Proactively identify and implement improvements to technical documentation and project procedures, ensuring best practices.
• Industry Expertise:Stay abreast of the latest industry standards, codes, and technological advancements in renewable energy, applying this knowledge to project development.
• Implementation Support:Provide critical technical support during the implementation phase of projects, ensuring successful deployment.
• Test and Commissioning: Full support in test and commissioning works for the projects inclusive BE, IOD and COD.
• Documentation Submission: Full support in design engineering documents submission, review and approval.
• BESS & EMS Ownership : Lead technical design, sizing and integration of BESS and EMS/ SCADA for both utility-scale and C&I rooftop projects.
• Grid & Regulatory Compliance : Ensure designs meet TNB grid code, SEDA/ ST guidelines and relevant Malaysia Codes of practices; act as primary technical point of contact for clients, sub-contractors and regulators)

b. Team & Operational Management

• Resource Management:Strategically plan and manage engineering resources, software, and equipment, ensuring adherence to project budgets and timelines.
• Process Enhancement:Identify opportunities to enhance internal systems and processes, improving overall service delivery and operational efficiency.
• Capability Building:Develop and deliver technical training programs to continuously build and enhance the capabilities of the engineering team.
• Performance & Development:Oversee team performance, foster career development, and provide mentorship to engineers.
• Talent Development:Proactively identify and address skill gaps within the team, implementing strategies to bridge those gaps.
• Reporting & Strategy:Report on project and team performance to senior leadership, contributing to strategic decision-making.

Requirements:

• Education:Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical Renewable Energy Engineering or related field.
• Certification:SEDA GCPV PV System Design qualification or an equivalent certification.
• Industry Experience:A minimum of 5 years of experience with proven track record in the photovoltaic (PV) industry, including hands‑on involvement in utility scale solar, rooftop solar and direct exposure to BESS system design & EMS/ SCADA platforms
• Senior Leadership Experience:At least 3 years of experience in a leadership, supervisory, or managerial role within a relevant technical field.
• System Knowledge (Required):Experience with electrical power and medium voltage systems is required, particularly for BESS interconnection and Maximum Demand Shaving design. Strong Knowledge of Malaysia renewable energy policies, grid interconnection processes and technical standards.
• Leadership Acumen:Demonstrated strong leadership and team management abilities with a proven track record of developing and motivating technical teams.
• Problem-Solving:Exceptional problem-solving skills and a capacity for strategic thinking.
• Software Proficiency : Working knowledge of PVsyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD, Google SketchUp, and Single-line diagram and related software.
• Language :Proficiency in English and Malay required; Mandarin proficiency is a strong advantage given ongoing coordination with China-based partner and vendors.
