Job summary

Kawan Food Berhad seeks an experienced engineering leader to drive the engineering function across the business from Pulau Indah, Klang. You will craft and implement the engineering vision, policies and processes to improve performance while meeting price, quality and delivery targets.

You will lead the engineering teams, oversee project execution from design to handover, and ensure EH&S and quality standards are upheld. Strong stakeholder management and cost-reduction focus are essential.

Job description

Overall responsibility for Engineering activities across the business

Create and implement best practice engineering vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve business performance

Ensure that engineering strategies and processes are in place to meet business objectives and operational needs in terms of price, quality and delivery targets and which enables the company to function and compete effectively in the market

Take ownership of the engineering policy, guidelines and any associated documents

Initiate and develop creative and innovative engineering processes

General and Task Management

Providing technical support to the business development, estimating and onsite engineering teams

Responsible for overseeing all aspects of build design, from contract award to handover

Support project management to cross functional activity required for project execution

Working closely with Purchasing Head to ensure all external contracts are regularly reviewed to ensure best value

Report on Engineering activities on a regular basis to the Senior Management team, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of the relevant Key Performance Indicators

Ensure that Environmental, Health and Safety, engineering and quality standards and procedures are adhered to

People Management

Provide leadership to departments under control and coach, mentor and develop direct reports and manage a high performing team that delivers continuous improvement, added value and cost reductions

Set department KPI and monitor ongoing progress and performance

Ensure strong communication between teams under leadership to facilitate exchange of information and in order to implement change and improvements

Ensure that the function operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors

Establish strategy and best practices for staff to ensure achievement of overall business objectives. Work with the Engineering team to translate site strategy into specific annual performance goals and departmental objectives. including KPIs, and to track them Financial Budget and Control

Relationship Management

Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance

Work collaboratively, negotiate and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the engineering strategy

Environmental & Sustainability Governance

Review environmental strategies that impact on future ways of operating and ensure implementation where possible

Review the use of technological systems that support a more environmentally friendly approach

Ensure environmental audits for engineering activities are carried out

Review opportunities to be as environmentally friendly as possible

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Candidate must possess at least Bachelor Degree in Engineering field.

Preferably with minimum 5 years' experience in the same capacity.

Proven leadership and management skills with the ability to optimize team performance and development

Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders and suppliers

Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills

Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities

Results orientated with ability to plan and deliver against project deadlines

Commercially and financially astute with experience of managing budgets

Technical mindset

An appreciation of and an ability to positively resolve issues arising from different cultures

Demonstrable experience of leading an engineering function with a proven track record in strategic engineering leadership delivering effective engineering strategies, policies, processes and systems

Ability to add value, reduce costs and make business improvements

Proven project management and supplier experience

Sound knowledge and technical understanding of automotive processes, components and design techniques
