About the role
The Group Financial Controller runs the finance function day-to-day for a privately owned consumer products group, this role will be reporting to the Senior Group Financial Controller and leading a finance team of around 12 with 5 team leads reporting directly to the role, the position is accountable for group reporting and consolidation, cash and treasury, tax compliance, and partners senior management on margin and growth. The incumbent works closely with the Senior Group Financial Controller, who provides mentoring and support in the role.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage the finance team in day-to-day operations, setting accountabilities, building capability and developing succession.
- Deliver the monthly close and group consolidation across all entities, providing timely and accurate management reporting to senior management.
- Partner with Sales, Marketing, Product and Supply Chain on pricing, launches, promotions, new-market entry and capital allocation.
- Deliver statutory reporting under MFRS and the Companies Act 2016, including revenue recognition policy for high-volume consumer sales, and manage the external audit to a clean, on-time completion.
- Manage cash flow forecasting, working capital, banking relationships, facilities and covenants, and FX exposure.
- Lead budgeting, rolling forecasts and long-range planning, and deliver unit economics including contribution margin by product and channel, landed cost, expiry write-off and fulfilment cost per order.
- Maximise the Group's investment in SAP S/4HANA through full adoption, master data governance and automation of reconciliations, close and reporting.
- Ensure full compliance across corporate tax, SST, withholding tax, transfer pricing and documentation, and e-Invoicing.
- Lead the finance and tax aspects of overseas expansion, including entity structuring, tax registration, permanent establishment and treaty positions, and local statutory reporting.
- Maintain the internal control and risk management framework, financial policies, delegation of authority and segregation of duties, and manage relationships with external auditors, tax agents and the company secretary.
Qualification
- Degree in Accounting or Finance; professional qualification (ACCA, CIMA, CPA or equivalent) and MIA membership preferred.
- Minimum 10 years' finance experience including 3 years as Financial Controller or Head of Finance of a group with revenue above RM 150 million.
- Experience in a fast-moving and high-volume B2C business (FMCG, retail, e-commerce or similar).
- Proven leadership of a finance team, operating effectively at both strategic and hands-on operational levels.
- Strong commercial and analytical capability; able to translate numbers into decisions for senior management.
- Suited to an owner-managed environment: fast-moving, lean on structure, requiring pragmatism, speed and comfort with ambiguity.
- Good knowledge and experience in group consolidation, MFRS, taxation and audit management.
- Proficient in a major ERP (SAP, Oracle, Dynamics or similar), with a track record of driving user adoption and automation; strong Excel and BI skills
