Job summary

Cohu Malaysia seeks a visionary Director of Supplier Manufacturing Development to build and lead a new organization focused on improving supplier performance across Asia. You will direct capability-building, assess factories, and drive improvement projects on the shop floor, partnering with Quality, Supply Chain and Engineering teams.

The role requires 15+ years in manufacturing leadership, deep expertise in core processes, and a proven track record in Lean/TPS and Six Sigma.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent.
• 15+ years manufacturing experience with leadership roles.
• Experience leading supplier development in Asia.
• Strong Lean/TPS and Six Sigma background.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead Supplier Manufacturing Development organization from the ground up; define charter and team.
• Serve as senior manufacturing authority inside supplier base; judge factory performance on flow and capacity.
• Improve supplier capability: capacity, cycle time, yield, delivery; focus on Asia.
• Lead large, critical improvement projects at strategic suppliers on the factory floor.
• Build the team: define roles, recruit engineers, set budgets and processes.
• Assess supplier factories and translate assessments into improvement plans.
• Be the deep technical expert in core processes and build a multi-process team.
• Own supplier capability assessment methodology and ensure real performance.
• Drive new supplier selection via disciplined qualification based on capability.
• Align supplier capability to product roadmaps and early feasibility.
• Lead problem solving with Lean/TPS and Six Sigma; sustain gains.
• Direct Supplier Development Engineers in Asia and partner with HQ teams.
• Support manufacturing of complex parts by providing technical support to suppliers.
• Review processes to ensure parts meet drawings and specs.
• Create PFMEA, work instructions, and control plan effectiveness with suppliers.
• Track supplier performance indicators to steer engineering effort.
• Create and execute strategic improvement plans at key suppliers.
