Job summary

SGS Malaysia seeks a Food Technologist to support QA, product specifications, and related food technology activities across the APAC region. Based at the SGS Malaysia Office (APAC) in Telok Panglima Garang, Selangor, this contract role focuses on specifications, product approval, and continuous improvement within a global food and beverage brand.

The role requires >3 years in the food industry, HACCP certification, and fluency in English and Chinese.

Qualifications

• Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or related technical sciences.
• HACCP training certified.
• Fully fluent in English and Chinese (spoken and written).
• 3+ years in food industry, testing, or QA context.
• Experience in product development, reformulation, and sensory attributes.
• Knowledge of food manufacturing, handling, and SPEQ-like specifications.

Responsibilities

• Support commodities' approval process.
• Draft, review, and maintain product specifications in SPEQ for ingredients, finished products, packaging materials, etc.
• Support specification revisions due to product or supplier changes.
• Assist in product cutting and sensory activities with suppliers and franchisees.
• Provide ad hoc tasks and administrative support to QA team.

We are currently representing a global food and beverage brand in the quick-service restaurant (QSR) industry that is looking to hire a Food Technologist based at the SGS Malaysia Office (APAC) in Telok Panglima Garang, Selangor.

This position will support Quality Assurance (QA), product specifications, product approval, and related food technology activities across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Supporting commodities' approval process
• Draft, review, and maintain product specifications in SPEQ for ingredients, finished products, packaging materials etc. Ensure specification information is complete, accurate, and aligned with requirements
• Support specification revisions and updates as part of product changes, supplier changes, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Support in execution of product cutting and sensory with suppliers and Franchisees including sample coordination, upload results etc.
• Perform other ad hoc tasks, projects, and administrative support activities as assigned by the Quality Assurance team

Job requirements

• Junior Level: >3 years' experience in Food Industry / Food Testing
• Basic experience in the food industry processing development and reformulation (ingredients & additive, sensory attributes, production and supply efficiencies)
• Certified HACCP training
• Basic Quality Assurance or production experience in food industry required
• Basic experience in NPD and general knowledge of food manufacturing and handling required
• Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or related Technical Sciences (Masters is a plus)
• Product sampling and handling experience
• Basics of organoleptic analytic knowledge
• Experience with MS Office is a must: MS Excel is must
• Fully fluent in English and Chinese both spoken and written

Additional Information

Location: SGS Malaysia Office (APAC), Telok Panglima Garang, Selangor

Employment: Contract basis (1+2 years, renewable)

Salary: Competitive, based on experience and last/current salary

Variable Bonus: Up to 2 months’ salary per year, performance-based
