Job summary

WD is seeking an Equipment Engineer, Manufacturing Engineering for the Sarawak location to own and optimize substrate manufacturing equipment, ensuring stability, quality and yield improvement. The role blends hands-on ownership with data-driven analysis to advance equipment capability.

The candidate will perform maintenance, troubleshoot automation equipment, and contribute to control-system integration and process improvements in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical & electronics, or mechatronics engineering; CS with hardware exposure encouraged.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent engineering software is advantageous.
• Programming/data analysis skills in MATLAB, Python, C++, or R are advantageous.
• Knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and structural mechanics is advantageous.
• Experience in technical report writing, field data collection, and equipment condition assessment.
• Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail in operational environments.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Equipment Engineer is responsible for supporting and optimizing the substrate manufacturing equipment. This role combines hands-on Equipment ownership and operational excellence with applied engineering analysis, ensuring consistent equipment stability, product quality, yield improvement, and process stability and OEE. The engineer will also contribute to data-driven research and improvement initiatives to advance equipment capability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting support to Manufacturing.
• Data Analysis to identify inefficiencies and recommend enhancements. Participate in troubleshooting, debugging, and maintaining automation equipment and processes.
• Assist in designing, testing, and implementing automation solutions, including hardware and software components.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to identify opportunities for automation improvements.
• Support the integration of control systems, sensors, actuators, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to optimize performance.
• Document project progress, technical specifications, and outcomes for future reference and compliance. Stay updated on emerging automation technologies and contribute innovative ideas to improve system capabilities.

REQUIRED:

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Electrical & Electronics Engineering / Mechatronics Engineering. Candidates from Computer Science with exposure and interest in Hardware and encouraged to apply.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks, or equivalent engineering software will be added advantage.
• Programming/data analysis skills: MATLAB, Python, C++, or R will be added advantage.
• Knowledge in Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, and Structural Mechanics will be added advantage.
