Job summary

BD is seeking an Engineering Program Manager in Kulim, Malaysia to lead a multidisciplinary engineering organization responsible for project execution, sustaining engineering, and manufacturing automation initiatives.

You will drive operational excellence, capacity expansion, and strategic manufacturing investments while partnering with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Regulatory Affairs, EHS, and global teams to support business growth and improve customer outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, Mechatronics, Industrial, Chemical, or related discipline).
  • Master's Degree or MBA is an advantage.
  • Minimum 10 years of engineering and manufacturing experience in a high‑volume environment.
  • Minimum 5 years of people leadership experience managing engineering teams.
  • Proven experience leading cross‑functional engineering projects and capital investment programs.
  • Strong background in manufacturing operations, process engineering, and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, TPM, or Operational Excellence.
  • Preferred: experience in regulated environments (medical device, pharma).

Responsibilities

Job description

As an Engineering Program Manager, you will lead a multidisciplinary engineering organization responsible for project execution, sustaining engineering, and manufacturing automation initiatives. This role will be instrumental in driving operational excellence, capacity expansion, product lifecycle support, and strategic manufacturing investments that support business growth and improve customer outcomes.

Reporting to the Site Asset Care Senior Manager, the Engineering Program Manager will provide leadership to Project Engineering, Sustaining Engineering, and Automation Engineering teams while partnering closely with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Regulatory Affairs, EHS, and global functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Program Leadership

Lead and manage a portfolio of engineering programs and projects aligned with business objectives, capacity requirements, cost improvement initiatives, and operational excellence goals.

Ensure successful execution of capital investment projects from concept through commercialization and operational handover.

Establish project governance, timelines, resource planning, budgets, risk management, and stakeholder communications.

Drive accountability for project deliverables, milestones, and financial commitments.

Sustaining Engineering Leadership

Lead the Sustaining Engineering team in supporting manufacturing operations, product performance, equipment reliability, and process optimization.

Prioritize and execute continuous improvement initiatives that improve quality, productivity, yield, and cost performance.

Support investigation and resolution of manufacturing issues utilizing structured problem‑solving methodologies.

Ensure engineering compliance with applicable regulatory, quality, and corporate requirements.

Automation Engineering Leadership

Lead the Automation Engineering team in developing and deploying automation solutions that enhance manufacturing efficiency, capacity, quality, and safety.

Drive automation strategy, smart manufacturing initiatives, digital transformation, and Industry 4.0 implementation.

Oversee the design, procurement, qualification, commissioning, and lifecycle management of automated equipment and systems.

Collaborate with global and site teams to standardize best practices and technology platforms.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

Build strong partnerships with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, R&D, Procurement, Finance, and Global Engineering teams.

Support new product introductions, product transfers, and manufacturing commercialization activities.

Facilitate effective communication and decision‑making across multiple stakeholders and leadership levels.

Develop and lead a high‑performing engineering organization through coaching, mentoring, performance management, and talent development.

Promote a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement.

Foster technical capability growth and succession planning within the engineering teams.

Required Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, Mechatronics, Industrial, Chemical, or related discipline).

Master's Degree or MBA is an advantage.

Experience

Minimum 10 years of engineering and manufacturing experience in a high‑volume manufacturing environment.

Minimum 5 years of people leadership experience managing engineering teams and technical professionals.

Proven experience leading cross‑functional engineering projects and complex capital investment programs.

Strong background in manufacturing operations, process engineering, and operational excellence initiatives.

Demonstrated success in project management, resource planning, and stakeholder management.

Engineering project management and execution.

Manufacturing process optimization and continuous improvement.

Automation systems and manufacturing technologies.

Equipment qualification and validation methodologies.

Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, TPM, or Operational Excellence practices.

Risk management and structured problem‑solving techniques.

Budget and capital expenditure management.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in medical device, pharmaceutical, healthcare, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.

Knowledge of FDA, ISO 13485, GMP, and regulatory requirements associated with medical device manufacturing.

Experience supporting new product introduction (NPI), product transfers, or commercialization activities.

Professional certifications such as PMP, Lean Six Sigma, or related engineering certifications.
