Job summary

Teleflex is seeking an experienced engineer to oversee maintenance and reliability across manufacturing equipment at our Kamunting site. You will monitor lifecycle, plan upgrades, and lead cost-improvement projects to drive productivity and quality in a highly regulated medical device environment.

The role requires strong leadership, a degree in engineering, and 4–5 years of managerial experience within manufacturing.

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering or related field; manufacturing experience.
• 5–10 years in manufacturing; 4–5 years in a managerial role.
• Experience in medical device manufacturing preferred; strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee preventive maintenance programs for manufacturing equipment, audit readiness.
• Monitor equipment lifecycle and plan mitigations to avoid productivity impact.
• Establish competency development plans for engineers and staff.
• Lead cost-reduction initiatives and CIP projects to boost productivity.

Position Summary

1. 1. Oversee preventive maintenance programs for manufacturing and plant equipment, including audit readiness.
2. 2. Monitor equipment lifecycle and ageing trends, and proactively plan and execute mitigation strategies (e.g., refurbishment, upgrades, replacement) to prevent productivity or production impact.
3. 3. Establish and drive structured competency development plans for engineers and technical staff based on capability gaps and organizational needs.
4. 4. Ensure compliance with safety, occupational health, and regulatory requirements across all engineering activities.
5. 5. Manage spare parts planning and inventory to prevent stock shortages.
6. 6. Establish and maintain reports on equipment downtime and maintenance costs.
7. 7. Review and maintain engineering documentation (equipment specs, tooling, drawings).
8. 8. Lead cost-reduction initiatives and drive structured Cost Improvement Projects (CIPs) to enhance productivity and operational efficiency.
9. 9. Manage Overhead (OPEX) spending for equipment repair & maintenance, outsourced services, and validation activities to ensure budget compliance and cost efficiency.
10. 10. Assess manufacturing process capability to meet product specifications.
11. 11. Mentor and coach the equipment engineering team to build technical competencies and guide the process engineering team to optimize manufacturing processes.
12. 12. Review and approve validation documentation including URS, FAT, SAT, IQ, OQ, and PQ.
13. 13. Monitor project progress and manage scope, design, or timeline changes.
14. 14. Lead strategic engineering initiatives, including process qualification, validation, new process introduction, product transfers, and process re-engineering projects.
15. 15. Coordinate engineering activities between development and operations teams.
16. 16. Support failure investigations, complaints, and CAPA implementation.
17. 17. Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance and sustain DPM performance.
18. 18. Identify and implement technology, process, and engineering methodology improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and overall operational effectiveness.
19. 19. Prepare project justifications (e.g., PEA/CAPEX) for automation or upgrades.
20. 20. Develop and mentor potential successors to ensure continuity of technical leadership within the engineering team.
21. 21. Act as nominated deputy when required.

Education / Experience Requirements

Qualification :

• Degree in Engineering (Electrical/Mechanical/Electronic) orDegree in Polymer Science or related Engineering field or Industrial Chemistry.

Experience :

• Strong knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation systems is essential.
• Proficient in statistical analysis using Minitab.
• Hands-on experience managing projects utilizing Lean tools and methodologies.
• 5–10 years of relevant experience in a similar manufacturing role.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Minimum 4–5 years of experience in a managerial role within a manufacturing environment, preferably in the medical device industry
