Job summary

MerchantSpring in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a Head of Engineering to own the engineering function and drive the next scale chapter. You will lead 11 engineers across ETL, API and AI/MCP squads, report to the CEO, and shape the technical vision, architecture and culture as the company grows from startup to scale-up.

This is a builder's leadership role where you code when it helps, hire and mentor, set delivery standards, and collaborate with Sales and Client Success to align technical priorities

Qualifications

• Hands-on engineering leader with prior team size 8–15 engineers.
• Strong experience in building scalable, API-first data platforms.
• Commercial focus on reducing infrastructure costs at scale.
• Excellent people leadership and architectural decision-making.
• Experience bridging engineering with sales and customer success.

Responsibilities

• Set technical vision and architecture for the data platform.
• Scale API and data platform to handle more channels and volume.
• Own cost optimization and infrastructure spend with data-driven decisions.
• Mentor engineers, define delivery standards, and foster culture.
• Collaborate with Sales and Client Success to inform the roadmap.
