Job summary

BMI in Penang seeks a process/ manufacturing engineer to provide technical support for production operations, troubleshoot process and quality issues, and apply engineering principles to optimize manufacturing processes and assembly sequences.

You will analyze drawings, prepare operation sheets, maintain SOPs, drive continuous improvement, collaborate with QA and cross-functional teams, and contribute to CAPA and process validations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Minimum two (2) years of relevant working experience in process engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related production environment.
  • Fresh graduates with strong academic achievements, solid engineering fundamentals, and a proactive attitude are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience in manufacturing and machining processes, including:
  • CNC 5-axis and 3-axis milling
  • Conventional milling operations
  • Expansion and closing processes
  • Riveting processes
  • Bending and forming processes using pressing tools, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, and press machines
  • Tooling and fixture fabrication
  • Sound understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including machine elements, mechanics, manufacturing processes, material science, and engineering problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to analyze technical drawings, process specifications, manufacturing data, and operational requirements to support process development, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Experience in troubleshooting manufacturing and quality issues related to equipment, tools, materials, process deviations, and operator-related concerns, with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Knowledge of process optimization and continuous improvement methodologies to improve productivity, reduce waste and scrap, lower manufacturing costs, and enhance product quality.
  • Capable of creating, maintaining, and improving manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, check sheets, process guidelines, SOPs, and machine programs.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with Operations, Quality, Engineering, and cross-functional teams across multiple global sites.
  • Demonstrates practical application of engineering principles, theories, and concepts to solve manufacturing challenges, make sound technical decisions, and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Self-motivated, analytical, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in the medical device, surgical instrument, precision machining, or regulated manufacturing industry will be an added advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to production operations by addressing process-related and technical issues on the production line to ensure smooth and efficient manufacturing activities.
  • Perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis to resolve quality issues arising during the production of general surgical instruments, ensuring compliance with quality standards and product specifications.
  • Apply established engineering principles to determine, develop, and optimize manufacturing processes and assembly sequences that meet organizational standards for quality, productivity, cost, and safety.
  • Analyze product specifications, engineering drawings, and technical data to develop production processes, estimate process cycle times, prepare operation sheets, and support new product or process implementation.
  • Create, review, update, and maintain manufacturing guidelines, work instructions, SOPs, and other process documentation to ensure standardized execution by production operators.
  • Evaluate existing manufacturing processes and recommend improvements to working methods, process flows, and operation sequences to minimize risks, reduce costs and wastage, improve yields and productivity, and enhance product quality.
  • Drive continuous improvement and process optimization initiatives through data analysis, problem-solving methodologies, and implementation of effective engineering solutions.
  • For more senior-level positions, develop innovative engineering solutions and new approaches to manufacturing challenges to improve operational efficiency, product quality, and overall production performance.
  • Collaborate closely with Production, Quality Assurance, and other cross-functional teams to support manufacturing objectives, process validations, and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor or Management from time to time.
