Job summary

Jora Malaysia is seeking an Electrical Engineer to ensure reliability, integrity and optimum performance of plant electrical systems. The role supports safe operations through maintenance planning, troubleshooting, equipment lifecycle management, and continuous improvement while complying with safety and engineering standards.

The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years in electrical maintenance or project engineering in relevant industries, with HV/LV experience and BEM registration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Registered with Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM).
  • 3–5 years of experience in electrical maintenance, reliability or project engineering in chemical, petrochemical, oil & gas, manufacturing or process industry.
  • Hands-on with HV and LV electrical systems, power distribution, switchgear, transformers, motors, MCC, VFDs and protection systems.
  • Experience in preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance planning and execution.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct routine inspections and performance evaluations of electrical systems to identify issues and actions.
  • Diagnose faults, troubleshoot equipment failures, and implement corrective solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor preventive/predictive maintenance programs to improve reliability and efficiency.
  • Lead electrical upgrades, retrofits, and improvement projects for safety and compliance.
  • Manage electrical projects including planning, budgeting, scheduling, contractor coordination, and execution.
  • Support plant expansion, modification, replacement and capital projects involving electrical systems.
  • Prepare technical specs, evaluate vendor proposals, and recommend procurement of electrical equipment and services.
  • Maintain up-to-date maintenance documentation and drawings.
  • Monitor critical assets and recommend strategies to extend life and reduce costs.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, standards, regulations, and electrical safety requirements.
  • Support PM, PdM, and CM programs; ensure work orders are completed and reported.
  • Participate in RCFA, incident investigations, MOC, and reliability improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Projects, Procurement, and HSSE teams to optimize performance.
  • Support turnaround and shutdown planning with technical scope and resource planning.

Job Purpose

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability, integrity, and optimum performance of the plant's electrical systems and equipment. The role supports safe and efficient plant operations through maintenance planning, troubleshooting, equipment lifecycle management, project execution, and continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance with applicable safety, regulatory, and engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct routine inspections, condition assessments, and performance evaluations of electrical systems and equipment to identify potential issues and recommend corrective or preventive actions.

  • Provide technical support to maintenance teams by diagnosing electrical faults, troubleshooting equipment failures, and implementing effective corrective solutions to minimize plant downtime.

  • Develop, implement, and monitor preventive and predictive maintenance programs to improve equipment reliability, availability, and operational efficiency.

  • Lead and support electrical system upgrades, retrofits, and improvement projects to enhance equipment performance, safety, reliability, and compliance with current operational requirements.

  • Manage electrical engineering projects, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, contractor coordination, and execution, ensuring projects are completed safely, within budget, and according to approved timelines.

  • Provide engineering support for plant expansion, modification, replacement, and capital projects involving electrical systems, power distribution, motors, transformers, switchgear, instrumentation interfaces, and related facilities.

  • Prepare technical specifications, evaluate vendor proposals, and provide technical recommendations for the procurement of electrical equipment, spare parts, and maintenance services.

  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date maintenance documentation, including inspection reports, maintenance records, equipment history, technical drawings, and engineering documentation.

  • Monitor the condition and reliability of critical electrical assets and recommend improvement strategies to extend equipment life and reduce maintenance costs.

  • Ensure all electrical maintenance and engineering activities comply with company policies, engineering standards, statutory regulations, and applicable electrical safety requirements.

  • Support the execution and continuous improvement of Preventive Maintenance (PM), Predictive Maintenance (PdM), and Corrective Maintenance (CM) programs, ensuring work orders are completed effectively and reported accurately.

  • Participate in root cause failure analysis (RCFA), incident investigations, Management of Change (MOC), and reliability improvement initiatives to prevent recurrence of equipment failures.

  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Projects, Procurement, and HSSE teams to optimize plant performance and ensure successful execution of maintenance and engineering activities.

  • Support turnaround and shutdown planning by providing technical expertise, scope development, resource planning, and execution support for electrical maintenance activities.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline from a recognized university.

  • Registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM). Registration as a Graduate Engineer is required; Professional Engineer (PEng) with Practising Certificate is an added advantage.

  • Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in electrical maintenance, reliability, or project engineering within the chemical, petrochemical, oil & gas, manufacturing, or process industry.

  • Hands-on experience with high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) electrical systems, power distribution, switchgear, transformers, motors, Motor Control Centers (MCC), Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), and electrical protection systems.

  • Experience in preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance planning and execution.

  • Experience in plant shutdowns, turnarounds, commissioning, or capital projects is an added advantage.
