Job summary

Glow Production is seeking a skilled Matte Painter/Concept Artist to create high-quality matte paintings, environment art, and 2D assets for cinematic production. You will blend 2D painting, photobashing, and 3D renders to deliver polished visuals across styles from realistic to stylized.

The role requires 2+ years of professional experience with a strong portfolio and proficiency in Photoshop, plus the ability to collaborate with ADs and other artists while following direction and ensuring

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional experience in matte painting, concept art, colour keys, and illustration.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating matte painting and concept/environment artwork.
• Solid foundation in art fundamentals: composition, perspective, colour theory, lighting, depth.
• Proficient in Photoshop and other 2D software.
• Understanding of how matte painting integrates with 3D environments and workflows.
• Ability to interpret and follow art direction while contributing creative solutions.
• Strong attention to detail and consistency across multiple shots.

Responsibilities

• Create high-quality matte paintings, environment artwork, and 2D assets for cinematic and visual production.
• Produce detailed paint-overs and composite artwork by combining 2D painting, photobashing, and 3D renders when required.
• Demonstrate strong understanding of composition, perspective, lighting, colour, scale, depth, and storytelling.
• Adapt artwork to styles from realistic to stylized.
• Develop colour keys that establish palette, mood, lighting, camera, and visual direction.
• Collaborate with Art Directors, Concept Artists, Environment Artists, and others to ensure visual quality.
• Revise work based on feedback and solve visual/technical challenges during production.
• Provide support for ad hoc 2D needs (illustration, poster design, environment design, etc.).
• Independently manage tasks, schedules, and deadlines with high quality.
• Maintain organized working files for handover.

Key Responsibilities

• Create high-quality matte paintings, environment artwork, and 2D assets for cinematic and visual production.
• Produce detailed paint-overs and composited artwork by combining 2D digital painting, photobashing, and 3D renders where required.
• Demonstrate strong understanding of composition, perspective, lighting, colour, scale, depth, and visual storytelling.
• Adapt artwork to different visual styles, ranging from realistic to stylized.
• Develop colour keys that establish the colour palette, mood, lighting, camera, and overall visual direction of scenes, ensuring consistency with the project’s artistic style and storytelling requirements.
• Work collaboratively with Art Directors, Concept Artists, Environment Artists, and other departments to achieve the required visual quality.
• Make revisions based on feedback and effectively solve visual and technical challenges during production.
• Provide support for ad hoc 2D production needs, including illustration, poster design, environment design, visual development, and other 2D artwork as required by the project.
• Independently manage assigned tasks, personal schedules, and deadlines while maintaining a high standard of quality.
• Maintain organized working files for handover.

Requirements

• 2+ years of professional experience in matte painting, concept art, colour keys, illustration.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating matte painting and concept/environment artwork.
• Strong understanding of art fundamentals, including composition, perspective, colour theory, lighting, atmosphere, and depth.
• Proficiency in Photoshop and other relevant 2D software.
• Good understanding of how matte painting and 2D artwork integrates with 3D environments and production workflows.
• Ability to interpret and follow art direction while also contributing creative solutions.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain consistency across multiple shots or assets.
• Good communication and collaboration skills when working with artists and other departments.
• Willingness to work onsite or relocate.

Nice to Have

• Experience with 3D software such as Blender, Maya, or Houdini.
• Experience using 3D renders or blockouts as a base for matte painting or paint-over work.
• Understanding of Unreal Engine or other real-time engines.
• Experience with AI-assisted tools as part of a professional 2D workflow.
