Concept Artist

Location: Kuala Lumpur, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur

Work Type: Full Time

Our client is an independent game development studio founded in 2008 in Southeast Asia. They focus on game technology and develop across multiple platforms, mainly on Windows Desktop PC using Unreal Engine. Their flagship game, launched in 2021, is a multiplayer squad-based FPS and RTS hybrid.

The studio offers full cycle work for hire, co-development, consulting, backend development, and virtual production support. They have a team of 60 full-time developers and are committed to developing digital interactive entertainment software, emphasizing innovation, integrity, and a people-first approach.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the team and stakeholders to provide visual direction and develop original designs within production feasibility and deadlines.
  • Create believable and visually compelling concepts, utilizing strong art fundamentals and knowledge across disciplines to visualize worlds, characters, and creatures.
  • Work with various disciplines to design, plan, and estimate production, ensuring immersive and believable game universes.
  • Maintain good interpersonal and communication skills to liaise effectively across different project stages and teams.
  • Stay updated with industry standards, trends, pipelines, and software to achieve high graphical benchmarks.
Requirements:
  • Proficiency in 2D software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, PaintTool SAI, Clip Studio Paint).
  • Experience with image management software (e.g., PureRef, Adobe Bridge).
  • Knowledge of pre-production practices (mood paintings, character sheets).
  • Strong observational skills and understanding of human and creature anatomy, industrial and vehicle design.
  • Ability to illustrate in different perspectives, lighting, and rendering styles.
  • Experience with multi-state design assets requiring animation.
  • Familiarity with traditional and agile development environments.
  • Proficiency in English, both verbal and written.
Additional Skills:
  • Experience in various art genres and concept entities.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine 4 or 5.
  • Skills in 2D texturing software and version control software.
  • Experience in hard-surfaced and stylized/hand-painted development.
  • Experience in animatics, storyboarding, and game art pipelines.
