Qualifications

• 2–3 years of professional desktop application development experience.

• Strong OOP and design pattern understanding.
• Experience with Git and collaborative workflows.
• Knowledge of software testing methodologies and unit testing.

• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• On-site in Kuala Lumpur; Malaysian work eligibility.
• Experience with agile development is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the AI desktop application client UI and features.
• Implement real-time display of AI-generated content with smooth long-form rendering.
• Show progress of long-running tasks with step-by-step progress.
• Design and implement permission prompts for file access and system commands.
• Design clear error messages for timeouts, outages, and content blocks.
• Deliver the application to macOS first, including packaging, code signing, notarisation, and updates; test across platforms.

About the role

WJ Digital SDN.BHD. is seeking a talented Desktop App Engineer to join our growing development team in Kuala Lumpur City Centre. This is a full-time position based in our Kuala Lumpur office, where you will take a central role in designing, developing, and maintaining robust desktop applications that power our business solutions. As a Desktop App Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality software that meets our clients' needs whilst adhering to best practices in software development. This position offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and contribute to innovative projects that have a real impact in the marketplace.

Key responsibilities

• 1. Take responsibility for developing and maintaining the AI desktop application client, including the interface and interactions for each feature in the application. These features currently cover writing, social media content creation, image generation, video production, data organisation, website and software development, AI learning courses, and organising personal ideas and knowledge.
• 2.Take responsibility for the interface that displays AI-generated content in real time. Content must appear promptly as it is generated, long content must display smoothly, and users must be able to stop generation at any time.
• 3.Take responsibility for showing the progress of longer-running tasks, so that users can check the current step and overall progress at any time while a task is under way.
• 4.Take responsibility for designing and implementing permission prompts. The application displays a prompt before it reads a user's files or runs system commands. These prompts must be concise and clear, so that users without a technical background can understand them and make a decision.
• 5.Take responsibility for the error messages shown when something goes wrong in the application. Situations such as model response timeouts, service unavailability and blocked content must all be explained in wording that users can understand.
• 6.Take responsibility for delivering the application on each target platform (currently macOS first),including packaging, code signing, notarisation and automatic updates, and for completing testing on each platform.

What we're looking for

• Proven experience as a Desktop Application Developer or similar role, with a minimum of 2-3 years of professional development experience
• Strong proficiency in one or more desktop application frameworks or languages such as C#, Java, C++, Python, or Electron
• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles and design patterns
• Experience with version control systems such as Git and familiarity with collaborative development workflows
• Knowledge of software testing methodologies and experience writing unit tests
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyse complex technical challenges
• Strong communication abilities and capacity to work effectively within a team environment
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
• Familiarity with databases and SQL is highly desirable
• Regular use of AI coding tools as an established part of your day-to-day development work.
• Ability to communicate at Chinese and English, written and spoken, and to work full-time on site at our Kuala Lumpur office; and the right to work in Malaysia.work in both
• Experience with agile development methodologies is a plus
