Job summary

Hitachi Energy Malaysia invites applications for a Design Engineer / Senior Engineer to join the Grid Automation team. You will support design, testing, and commissioning of substation protection and control projects across the region.

The role requires strong engineering design skills, expertise in protection and control systems, and ability to work across multicultural teams with English fluency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Experience in protection and control engineering for substations or power systems is preferred.
• Fluent written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer high-voltage protection and control systems for substation projects.
• Prepare and maintain engineering documents, schematics, wiring diagrams, and termination charts.
• Configure, test, troubleshoot, and support commissioning of protection relays and control systems.
• Produce engineering deliverables per customer specs and Hitachi Energy standards.
• Support project teams by managing interfaces with customers and stakeholders.
• Participate in design reviews and resolve engineering challenges.
• Contribute to continuous improvement by applying lessons learned and best practices.
• Support project execution with focus on quality, schedule, and customer satisfaction.

We are looking for a Design Engineer / Senior Engineer to join our Grid Automation team and support the engineering, design, and execution of substation protection and control projects across the region. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality engineering designs, supporting testing and commissioning activities, and ensuring projects are executed in accordance with customer requirements, quality standards, safety guidelines, and project schedules.

Key responsibilities

• Design and engineer high-voltage protection and control systems for substation projects
• Prepare, review, and maintain engineering documentation, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and termination charts
• Configure, test, troubleshoot, and support commissioning of protection relays and control systems
• Produce engineering deliverables in accordance with customer specifications, contractual requirements, and Hitachi Energy standards
• Support project teams by managing technical interfaces with customers and stakeholders
• Participate in design reviews, technical discussions, and resolution of engineering challenges
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by applying lessons learned and industry best practices
• Support project execution while maintaining focus on quality, schedule, and customer satisfaction
• Promote and maintain a strong health, safety, and environmental (HSE) culture in all activities

About you

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline
• Experience in protection and control engineering for substations, power systems, or related industries
• Knowledge of high-voltage protection and control systems, relay configuration, testing, and troubleshooting
• Familiarity with substation primary equipment and protection schemes
• Experience with engineering design tools such as E3, AutoCAD, or equivalent
• Knowledge of Substation Automation Systems (SAS), RTUs, PLCs, and communication gateways is an advantage
• Understanding of cybersecurity principles for industrial control systems is a plus
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Fluency in written and spoken English
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multicultural and geographically dispersed teams
