Job summary

DKSH Group is seeking an experienced Database Administrator in Kuala Lumpur to lead the enterprise databases lifecycle and security. You will manage upgrades, patching, and migrations, ensuring data integrity and uptime. The role emphasizes collaboration, documentation, and best practices across IT teams.

The ideal candidate has 2–4 years in DB administration, strong SQL Server/Azure SQL expertise, and excellent communication skills to work with diverse stakeholders in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• 2–4 years of experience in Database Administration.
• Expertise in Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL.
• Strong knowledge of database design, performance tuning, and security implementation.
• Experience troubleshooting complex database issues and cloud migrations.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead implementation and ongoing management of enterprise databases as the key service owner.
• Plan and execute database lifecycle activities including upgrades and patch management.
• Implement and maintain database security measures for regulatory compliance.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve database incidents to minimize downtime.
• Develop backup and recovery strategies for data availability and DR readiness.
• Maintain documentation of inventory, SOPs, and performance/capacity reports.
• Plan and execute migration of on-premises SQL Server databases to Azure SQL.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and share best practices within the team.

About the Role

What You Will Deliver

• Lead the implementation and ongoing management of enterprise databases as the key service owner, ensuring consistent and reliable database operations across the organization.
• Plan and execute database lifecycle activities, including upgrades, service pack installations, and patch management, to enable seamless migration of data and applications to new database versions.
• Implement and maintain database security measures to ensure compliance with relevant data protection regulations and industry-specific security standards.
• Proactively monitor, investigate, and troubleshoot database-related incidents, delivering timely resolutions that minimize downtime and business disruption.
• Develop and implement database backup and recovery strategies to ensure data availability and disaster recovery readiness.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of database inventory and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and generate reports covering performance metrics, capacity planning, cost control, and growth projections.
• Plan and execute cloud migration strategies for on-premises Microsoft SQL Server databases to Azure SQL, ensuring data integrity and minimal disruption to business operations, while managing and optimizing Azure SQL databases using cloud-native features and scalability.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to provide database-related support and guidance, and actively share best practices and technical knowledge with team members to foster a culture of continuous learning.

What You Bring

• Professional degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 2-4 years of relevant working experience in Database Administration.
• Expertise in Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL.
• Strong knowledge of database design, performance tuning, and security implementation.
• Proven experience in troubleshooting complex database issues and executing cloud migration projects.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively in a diverse environment.
• Knowledge of different types of Database Management Systems (DBMS) is an advantage.
• Relevant certifications in Microsoft SQL Server administration and Azure are desirable.
