Job summary

Zurich Life Insurance Malaysia Berhad is seeking a Data Engineer – Platform & Analytics to join our regional edge data team. You will deliver end-to-end data solutions, including databases, data lakehouses, pipelines, data sharing, and reporting across Asia-Pacific.

You will partner with business stakeholders and regional data consumers to ensure reliable, scalable data products, with a strong focus on quality, governance, and operational excellence in a cloud-enabled environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Data Engineering, or related field.
• 3–7 years of data engineering, database development, or analytics engineering experience.
• Experience in Agile delivery environments preferred.

Job description

We are looking for a Data Engineer – Platform & Analytics to join our regional edge platform data team supporting digital business across Asia-Pacific. This role sits within a technical team closely aligned with application development and is responsible for delivering end-to-end data solutions, including application databases, data lakehouse platforms, data pipelines, data sharing, and business reporting.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting and enhancing our data ecosystem while partnering with business stakeholders, application teams, and regional data consumers to deliver reliable, scalable, and high-quality data solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes.
• Support and optimize cloud-based data platforms, databases, and data lakehouses.
• Build scalable data integration solutions across multiple source systems.
• Ensure data quality, reliability, monitoring, and operational excellence across data assets.
• Manage data ingestion, transformation, and data delivery processes.

Database Administration & Support

• Support application databases and perform database troubleshooting.
• Assist with database performance tuning, access management, and operational support.
• Implement data security, governance, and compliance requirements.
• Support deployment, release activities, and production issue resolution.

Analytics & Reporting

• Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand reporting requirements.
• Develop and support dashboards, reports, and analytical datasets.
• Translate business requirements into scalable data models and reporting solutions.
• Enable self-service reporting through well-structured and governed datasets.

Platform Governance & Continuous Improvement

• Contribute to data standards, best practices, and solution standardization initiatives.
• Implement monitoring, alerting, and operational controls for data solutions.
• Support automation and AI-driven opportunities to improve delivery efficiency.
• Participate in architecture reviews and platform improvement initiatives.

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Skills

• Strong SQL development and query optimization skills.
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL server
• Experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Experience with cloud data platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Databricks.
• Familiarity with data warehouse concepts and dimensional modelling.
• Experience with reporting and visualization tools such as Power BI.
• Exposure to version control tools such as Git.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Databricks, Delta Lake, and Spark.
• Experience with AWS services such as Glue, S3, Lambda, and IAM.
• Knowledge of data governance, security, and access control practices.
• Familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps practices.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or a related field.
• 3–7 years of experience in data engineering, database development, or analytics engineering.
• Experience working in Agile delivery environments is preferred.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under tight timelines.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Strong ownership mindset and accountability.
• Continuous learning attitude with a willingness to explore new technologies and AI capabilities.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across regional teams.
