Job summary

Horizontal Talent is seeking a Data Centre Site Lead for a new hyperscale data centre in Johor, Malaysia, to transition from construction to live operations. This on-site, permanent role reports to Asset Owner and collaborates with the Operating Partner to ensure readiness and service delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Facilities Engineering or related field.
• 8–10 years in data centre operations or similar.
• Experience with hyperscale, enterprise, or colocation facilities.
• Knowledge of MV/LV electrical systems, UPS, generators, cooling systems, BMS/DCIM.

Responsibilities

• Represent Asset Owner onsite during transition from construction to operations.
• Oversee Operating Partner for day-to-day facility operations.
• Monitor SLA performance and compliance with standards.
• Review incidents, maintenance, RCA for operational excellence.
• Collaborate with customers, contractors, and stakeholders for smooth operations.
• Support readiness activities before Go-Live.
• Monitor vendor performance and contractual commitments.
• Identify risks and propose reliability improvements.
• Ensure safety, regulatory, and governance compliance.

About the Opportunity

Our client is a leading digital infrastructure company expanding its hyperscale data centre footprint across the Asia-Pacific region. They are seeking an experienced Data Centre Site Lead to support the transition of a new hyperscale data centre in Johor from construction into live operations. This is a unique opportunity to join the Asset Owner's team and play a key role in ensuring operational readiness, overseeing service delivery, and working closely with the appointed Operating Partner to deliver world‑class data centre operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Represent the Asset Owner on‑site during the transition from construction to operations.
• Oversee the appointed Operating Partner responsible for day‑to‑day facility operations.
• Monitor operational performance and ensure compliance with agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and operational standards.
• Review incident reports, maintenance activities, and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to ensure operational excellence.
• Work closely with customers, contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders to ensure smooth site operations.
• Support operational readiness activities prior to the site's Go‑Live.
• Monitor vendor performance and ensure services are delivered in accordance with contractual commitments.
• Identify operational risks and recommend improvements to enhance reliability and performance.
• Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and company governance requirements.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 8–10 years of experience in Data Centre Operations, Critical Facilities, Mission Critical Facilities, or similar environments.
• Experience working in hyperscale, enterprise, or colocation data centres.
• Strong understanding of critical infrastructure, including:
  • MV/LV Electrical Systems
  • UPS & Backup Power Systems
  • Generators
  • Cooling Systems (CRAH/CRAC, Chillers)
  • BMS/DCIM platforms
• Experience managing vendors, contractors, or outsourced service providers.
• Familiarity with operational governance, SLA management, and customer‑facing environments.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
