Job summary

Applied Materials is seeking a Customer Engineer to join our India-based team. You will work hands-on with cutting-edge semiconductor equipment, performing installation, maintenance, and upgrades, with significant travel in the APAC region.

The role requires an associate degree or equivalent, 2–6 years in field service, and the ability to read electrical/mechanical schematics. You will troubleshoot using digital analytics and support customers directly, with training provided as needed.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or trade cert; field service experience acceptable.
• 2–6 years in customer/field service or related technical field.
• Ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics.
• Experience diagnosing and resolving basic technical challenges.
• Mechanical aptitude with pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum, or thermodynamics.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Senior Field Service Engineers [Customer Engineers] in installing, maintaining, and upgrading customer equipment
• Use digital analytics for troubleshooting
• Apply basic diagnostic techniques to assess equipment and address technical issues, with guidance from Senior Field Service Engineers [Customer Engineers]
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic, and gas systems (training provided)
• Coordinate and communicate directly with customers
• Participate in projects/assignments in meeting organization goals
• Fulfill additional duties, as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

• Completion of an Associate degree, military technical training, field service experience, or trade certification
• 2 - 6 years of work experience in customer/field service support, or a related technical field
• Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics
• Experience diagnosing and resolving basic technical challenges
• Basic mechanical aptitude with pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum, or thermodynamics
• Familiarity with hand tools and their appropriate usage, including digital multimeters
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a passport, if travel is required.
• Able to meet all on-site requirements, including safety, environmental guidelines, and customer/Applied protocols

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate degree in electronics or engineering technologies
• Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum, or thermodynamics
• Familiarity with hand tools and their appropriate usage, including digital multimeters

Additional Job Description

Additionally, this role is expected to require approximately 75% travel within the APAC region during the first two years. Following successful completion of the training and deployment phase, employees are expected to be assigned to the Gujarat region in India.
