The Credit Underwriter is responsible forconducting detailed credit assessments, reviewing credit applications, and providing approval recommendations for lending portfolios.
This role ensures the quality of credit decisions, adherence to credit policies, and continuous monitoring of the credit portfolio to mitigate risks.
- Screen and process the SME and Non-SME loan applications and to ensure the Credit Evaluation’s process, searches, policies and guidelines are complied with.
- Conduct credit underwriting assessment and able to identify potential credit risk.
- Ensure sound credit approval quality through the identification of potential problem accounts for close monitoring and early remediation during the periodic review.
- Assist in the implementation of new/changes in credit policy/ new business initiatives.
- Conduct evaluation based on detailed analysis and provide with recommendations based on credit underwriting standards and policies.
- Provide feedback on the gaps/opportunities in credit underwriting policy.
- Ensure timely completion of credit evaluation and assist business units in suggesting risk-mitigating terms during the evaluation of credit proposals.
- Assist in initiatives to streamline end-to-end credit processes.
- Perform timely periodic review which includes line management and early warning detection to help ensure the performance of existing accounts are being actively monitored.
- Contribute to the preparation of credit management committee meeting.
- Maintain market awareness and be vigilant of trends affecting existing and future credit exposures.
- Work with Business Unit to define, review and enhance Target Market and Risk Acceptance Criteria.
- Undertake ad-hoc tasks/ projects as may be required from time to time.
Job Requirements & Criteria:
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in credit assessment or front-line covering commercial/SME credits.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Business Management, Accounting, or related field.
- Professional certification such as AICB CCR, CCE, CCP or equivalent certification is highly desired.
- Able to work under pressure with tight turnaround time.
- Swift in undertaking other credit-related matters apart from the typical credit assessment/ tasks.
- Possess strong analytical, writing and interpersonal skills.
