Job summary

Brooks Automation is hiring an NPI Supply Chain Cost Estimating Engineer to lead cost estimation for semiconductor automation products. You will drive target costing, data collection, and supplier quote analysis to promote cost effectiveness in design and manufacturing.

You will collaborate with design, manufacturing, and sourcing teams, applying cost methodologies and software tools to improve margins and meet project timelines.

Qualifications

• BS or BA in Engineering, Purchasing or technical discipline.
• 5+ years cost estimating experience in mechanical commodities.
• Ability to read drawings, blueprints and specifications; GD&T aware.

Responsibilities

• Lead cost estimates for new and legacy products in design phase.
• Prepare reliable data using software models and cost methodologies.
• Ensure quotes meet should-cost targets and support negotiations.
• Collect data from design to convert specs into cost estimates.
• Support and mentor teams on costing processes and tools.

Job Description

The NPI Supply Chain Cost Estimating Engineer will support the Semiconductor Automation Supply Chain team as the lead cost engineer for both new and legacy product. This position will provide cost estimates and comparison cost for the value of machined and fabricated goods that are provided by the supply chain.

Key Responsibilities:

• Determine the cost estimate targets during the design and development process, recommending cost effective solutions.
• Utilize cost methodologies, tools, and appropriate software models and packages to prepare and maintain reliable and accurate data.
• Transforms product costing through continuous improvement of systems, methods, and procedures.
• Will collect and analyze initial data information to estimate cost associated with manufacturing a machined or fabricated product.
• Ensure supplier quotations meet “should cost” estimates.
• Support supplier meetings and negotiations to challenge quotation and direct cost reductions to meet target costs.
• Gather proposals, specifications, and other related documents from design engineering to convert specifications to cost estimates for new and current products.
• Supports the quote process, ensure quote accuracy, quality, compliance with Brooks Automations goals, responsiveness, and rapid turn-around time of quotes.
• Leads others by supporting and executing all related processes and procedures.
• Train, mentor, and provides software modeling support to regions, sites and/or individuals for costing procedures and processes.
• Provide cost estimates during change process and advise of cost impact of changes.
• Provide costing / pricing support, and leadership to sites and/or other functional groups or regions as required.
• May provide technical support for DFs (design for all desirable manufacturability) including reviewing engineering changes and assessment of materials/supply chain impact.
• Review request for information (RFI) and management's requirements to model cost and simulate pricing

Required Skills:

• 5+ years of experience in cost estimating.
• Strong background with mechanical commodities (sheet-metal, precision machining, welding, plastics, injection molding, casting, brazing) with ability to read and interpret technical documents including drawings, blueprints, product specifications, material tolerances, finish specifications. Understanding of GD&T and mechanical industry workmanship standards.
• Demonstrated strong analytical, negotiation and communication skills.
• Customer-focused, self-motivated with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks with minimal direction, ability to drive initiatives and programs with unclear initial definition.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project.
• Knowledge of cost methodologies and software modeling tools. Prefer experience with aPriori a plus

Required Experience and Education:
BS or BA Degree in Engineering, Purchasing or Technical discipline.
