Job Summary
The Cook cum Kitchen Helper is responsible for preparing and cooking food at a designated station in the cafeteria kitchen. The role ensures consistent food quality, timely production, proper portioning, and strict compliance with hygiene and food safety standards in a high-volume environment.
Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation & Cooking
- Prepare and cook food according to daily menu, recipes, and portion standards.
- Operate assigned cooking station (e.g., wok station, grill, curry station, frying station, or main dish station).
- Ensure food is cooked properly, safely, and served at the correct temperature.
- Work efficiently during peak service hours to meet meal timelines.
Food Quality & Consistency
- Maintain consistent taste, quality, and presentation of dishes.
- Follow standard recipes and plating guidelines strictly.
- Notify the Assistant Head Chef of any quality issues with ingredients.
Food Safety & Hygiene
- Follow all food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards (HACCP / KKM).
- Ensure proper food handling, storage, labeling, and FIFO practices.
- Keep workstation clean and organized at all times.
- Clean cooking equipment, utensils, and work surfaces after use.
- Work closely with other cooks, commis, and kitchen helpers.
- Support the Assistant Head Chef during high-volume production.
- Step in to assist other stations when required.
- Assist in receiving and organizing raw materials when needed.Minimize food wastage and follow proper portion control.
- Inform supervisors of low stock or ingredient shortages.
- Use ingredients efficiently and responsibly.
Requirements
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience as a Cook or Line Cook, preferably in cafeteria, catering, or industrial kitchen.
- Basic knowledge of cooking techniques and kitchen operations.
- Understanding of food hygiene and safety practices.
- Able to work in shifts, early mornings, weekends, or public holidays if required.
- Physically fit and able to stand for long hours in a hot kitchen.
- Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
