Job summary

DayOne is seeking a Construction Manager (Mechanical & Electrical) to oversee the full lifecycle of M&E projects, ensuring meticulous planning, execution, and handover for data centers. The role requires deep expertise in HVAC, electrical systems, fire protection and IST testing.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years of construction project management experience in M&E or engineering, with data center exposure preferred.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in construction PM within the M&E or engineering field.
• Experience in data center projects preferred.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, power, and fire protection.
• IST testing and commissioning experience.
• CAPEX planning and total cost of ownership (TCO) understanding.
• Engineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related field.
• Proficient with MS Project and MS Office; strong organizational skills.
• Fluent in English; APAC languages advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the entire M&E construction lifecycle including planning, execution and handover.
• Coordinate with site and contractor teams to ensure timely milestone completion.
• Manage M&E contracts and oversee amendments with architects and subcontractors.
• Monitor budgets, prepare progress and financial reports for stakeholders.
• Maintain relationships with contractors, consultants, and authorities; ensure standards.
• Collaborate with external consultants on design and construction of M&E systems.
• Lead safety initiatives and ensure compliance with regulations and permits.
• Drive continuous improvement and implement quality control techniques.

Position Overview

The Construction Manager (Mechanical & Electrical) oversees the comprehensive lifecycle of M&E construction projects, ensuring efficient project planning, execution, and handover. This role requires expertise in managing mechanical and electrical systems, coordinating with site teams and contractors, and maintaining effective communication with all stakeholders to meet project objectives.

Responsibilities

Project Management & Leadership

• Oversee the entire M&E construction lifecycle, including planning, execution, and handover phases.
• Coordinate with site and contractor teams to ensure timely completion of M&E project milestones.
• Identify and mitigate project risks, ensuring clear communication of updates on schedules, budgets, and technical issues to stakeholders.

Contract & Financial Management

• Lead M&E-specific contract negotiations and oversee amendments with architects, consultants, and subcontractors.
• Evaluate M&E construction methods for cost-effectiveness, monitor budget adherence, and produce regular progress and financial reports.

Stakeholder & Contractor Relations

• Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including contractors, consultants, and relevant authorities, ensuring adherence to project standards.
• Provide support to local teams on customer discussions regarding M&E project progress and any technical challenges.

Design & Systems Coordination

• Collaborate closely with external consultants to ensure effective design and construction of M&E systems within data centers, covering HVAC, electrical distribution, fire protection, and other critical infrastructure.
• Ensure the successful handover of M&E systems to operational teams, addressing any outstanding issues or deficiencies.

Safety & Compliance

• Lead safety initiatives on-site, ensuring full compliance with M&E regulations and industry standards.
• Oversee adherence to all relevant permitting and government authority requirements for M&E projects.

Continuous Improvement & Quality Assurance

• Promote a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration within the project team.
• Implement advanced project management and quality control techniques to optimize M&E project outcomes.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in construction project management within the M&E or engineering field; additional experience in data center projects is highly preferred.
• Proven experience in delivering large-scale M&E projects, with strong knowledge of HVAC, power systems, and fire protection.
• Expertise in M&E systems, local authority approval processes, and testing and commissioning of critical infrastructure in data centers, including Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
• Solid understanding of CAPEX planning, cost estimation, and total cost of ownership (TCO) for M&E systems in data centers.
• Engineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related field.
• Proficiency in project management tools, MS Project, and MS Office, with excellent organizational and time-management skills.
• Demonstrates initiative, collaboration, and resilience under pressure.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken); additional languages in the APAC region are advantageous.
