Job summary

Ulu Ai Conservancy Berhad in Sarawak seeks a Conservation Assistant (Iban speaking) for a 6-month short-term contract to support local communities near Batang Ai and contribute to orangutan conservation. You will assist ground staff with community engagement, workshops, data collection, and reporting, staying in rural communities for extended periods as needed.

English proficiency, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and a passion for social impact are essential to collaborate

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Community Development, or a related field (preferred).
• English is required for NGO work.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.

[6 Months SHORT TERM CONTRACT] Conservation Assistant (Iban Speaking)

Project Overview:

This project aims to improve the livelihoods of the longhouse communities at Batang Ai, while also working towards the conservation of the orangutans and other animals in that area. As a conservation assistant you will be assisting our ground staff with project activities for the remainder of the project duration.

Responsibilities:

Community Engagement:

Develop strong relationships and trust with local Iban communities.

Communicate project objectives and benefits to community members.

Facilitate workshops and training sessions.

Actively gather feedback from communities regarding the project.

Project Implementation:

Collaborate with communities to implement project activities effectively.

Ensure project activities align with established objectives and timelines.

Data Collection and Reporting:

Meticulously document project activities, including photos, notes, and observations.

Prepare clear and concise reports to monitor progress toward project goals.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Community Development, or a related field (preferred).

English is also required as you will be working with a well-known NGO

Ability to work with and contribute to a team

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively

A keen eye for detail and a demonstrated ability to accurately record and report information

Experience working in a community setting and a passion for social impact are highly desirable

NOTE: You will be required to stay in rural communities for extended periods (within reason)
